2021 Windshield took a rock and cracked

Ive noticed the windshield has the "Ford" at top, and says "Soundscreen" I believe on the bottom. Is there anything I need to do to ensure I get another windshield with the Soundscreen tech? Normally Id just have safelite come out.

I believe (old thread on here) there's 3 grades usually offered, top is oe replacement offered by SL..

Thats what I recall. I wished a rock would hit mine to replace it and have it re-tinted before install.

Safe light quoted me 1500 for the OE ford windshield in my 17. The body shop got one from ford for 450. Was 375 or something wholesale.

yea, i hated doing it, but i didnt want to mess with insurance on it.. smh.. and that was with some discounts..

On my 2019 with the "sound screen" I simply said that I wanted the OEM when Safelite scheduled the replacement. The tech said he was glad it was OEM because programming the wipers, cruise control, lane keeping stuff was much easier than trying to get an aftermarket windshield programming done correctly

THanks ya'll I messed around on the SL site. Looks like $1215 to get the OE shield that says ford.

My wipers still need to be reprogrammed.. been done twice so far, and still dont work perfect with automation.. first time, even my assists and cruise control didnt work, but been too busy to get them back out to redo wipers lol

Do yourself a favor and try to find a reputable glass shop or body shop that does glass, Safelite is trash which is to be expected with techs who have minimal training and have to do multiple windshields a day in random parking lots and streets.

I realize safelite is a franchise and quality can vary, but based on what I said above, how much can that quality really vary? I had safelite put a windshield in my old 03 Marauder after it took a big rock and cracked it, I needed it fixed immediately. The tech commented "wow, whoever put this last windshield in did a great job!" (hint: it was me) and proceeded to get urethane all over my drivers seat and dash trim. That shit does not come off once it is dry, ever.


Whoever you go with, demand an OEM Carlite / Ford windshield, hopefully they're available in these times of supply chain shortages. It took me months and extreme luck to get an OEM windshield for my dads 03 Z4 last year.

IIRC soundscreen just indicates its acoustic glass present on higher trims. More expensive but you'll probably want to stick with it.

No, with my deductible I will only pay $250, so Im def going with the OE glass.

I was quoted 450 like 10 months ago from satellite for an oe replacement, have the prices gone up that high in less than a year?

My quote of 1500 plus was the first week of Aug 2022. Ford factory glass and they needed 2 weeks to get it.. My body shop quoted me 450 installed and had it the next day. Ford logo and sound screen or whatever that logo means.
