I'm brand new here so my apologies if this is the wrong place or if this question had been addressed. I would appreciate if anyone can direct me to a good thread on this issue if it is well known!
I have a 2020 GT with the 6-speed manual with just over 3k miles on it, and the transmission is really clunky and inconsistent. About 50% of the time, when sitting at a light in neutral, when I put it in gear there is a massive clunking noise/feel that shakes the whole car. Several times, when backing up and with the clutch in the friction zone, I've heard a loud cracking sound from the engine. Shifts at normal speeds feel super clunky and hard going into gear. Those are the main issues that seem to be related to the transmission and couldn't possible be user error
Other issues which may be related or which could just be my lack of familiarity with mustangs/high-power cars (this is my first mustang and first v8 after 10+ years with a more practical car): On the rare occasions I've tried to have a little straight-line fun, seems like it's REALLY hard to shift from 1st to 2nd without major clutch slipping. Maybe I"m trying too hard to be gentle? I have no idea. Also, putting in the clutch to brake at slow speeds, esp 1st and 2nd gear, there is major rattling from the transmission. Is this normal?
I've babied this thing so far--I only use it for a relatively short commute or around town, and I took it REALLY easy for the first 1k miles (very hard to do), so I don't think it's anything to do with the way I've treated the car so far. Even if I wanted to hammer it, I live in a pretty dense metro area so by the time I shift I've pretty much run out of room. Not trying to be one of those guys weaving in and out of traffic going way faster than everyone else.
So my questions are:
- Is this a known issue? I know that there is a class action lawsuit pending right now about this transmission, do my "symptoms" match up with that?
- Is there anything I can ask the dealership to do proactively? Anything I should do myself?
Thank you all so much in advance for sharing your knowledge, advice, and suggestions!
