I picked up this 2020 about a year ago, with plans to modify it as a fun project for me and my kids. Did some baseline dyno pulls back in May and the car laid down 290/322. This surprised me, as some brief googling had me thinking these cars were more in the 250-260whp range.

Is there a way to tell if it's got a tune? It's a low mileage car (about 3k when I bought it, about 6k now) and looks it inside and out. Previous owner (first owner) had not installed any mods that I could tell.

We added a CVFab street intercooler and charge pipes in the fall, and I plan to add an Airaid intake tube and filter this spring when I get it out of storage. I was considering getting the Cobb Accessport, but if the car is already putting down this much power and/or already has a tune, is it even worth it to spend the money on the Cobb and another tune?

What gear did you dyno it in, and auto or manual trans?

I would expect it show show more torque than that if it it was tuned.

Any idea what other cars read on that dyno?

Specific dyno numbers can vary due to the dyno calibration and type. This one could just read high.

Cobb is worth the money, especially if you find a tuner for the future to get a custom tune that uses cobb

The eco 2.3 can make a nice amount of power if done right and especially tuned right

MT, 4th gear.
No other Ecoboosts at this dyno to compare to unfortunately.

id expect more torque if tuned. hp is high, but could be from less drivetrain loss of a manual.

A fbo cobb stage 2+ gets 340 ish whp, a custom tune gets 360whp, a really really good dynotune by a 2.3 eco tuner who knows what hes doing can pull out 380-390whp

Stock is going to be stock, an intake and catback wont do much, intercooler recommended for non and tuned applications, always helps

The downpipe and a solid tune gives 85% of gains on this platform, for stock turbo and motor

That comes out to 6% driveline loss, I would say you have a dyno shop that is fudging the numbers and yes there are shops that will fudge the numbers because when someone pays them to dyno their car they want to see big numbers.

Banks Power and Gale Banks have been doing performance work for 6 decades and according to Gale Banks the average driveline loss he sees from his dyno is 18% which is three times the driveline loss your car is showing.

A standard ecoboost Mustang puts out 310 HP at the crankshaft. 310 - 18% = 254.2 HP

From what i heard about the manual trans in these cars, it turns out to be around 12% loss but its also not a set in stone number, but definitely somewhere between 12-18%

The biggest issue we have with these Mustangs is the double drive shaft, the axle shafts, plus the transmissions, all of that is a lot of items that contribute to driveline loss, I wish Ford would have just put in a one piece drive shaft that would eliminate some of the driveline loss. As you said there is no set in stone number.

UPDATE: May 2025
So we installed the CVF Street intercooler and charge pipes last fall, and then earlier this month added the CVF downpipe and Cobb Accessport; then put it on the dyno for some tuning and of course a few power runs. Laid down 320whp/400ftlbs. Not too shabby.

I have a 2017 and am pretty sure 5th gear in MT is 1:1 with 6th as overdrive. Did they change the ratios in the 2020 transmission so both 5th and 6th are now overdrive gears? If not, and your dyno is in 4th gear, shouldn't the dyno be run in 5th gear and wouldn't that explain the high stock hp number (?) I don't know much about dynos so am just guessing..... (?)

Do you live near a 1/4 mile track, or can you do a dragy 60-130 run?
