It's the type of differential, they come standard on PP cars and the GT350/500

The Detroit Trutrac diff is basically the same thing, but AFAIK they don't make one for the super 8.8 yet

So is the differential in my non-PP manual 2018 a torsen? Or if not, how does it compare?

There is only 3 diffs available for the super 8.8 that I know of, the torsen, which is only available with the PP cars and the GT 350/500 from the factory, an open diff, and the ford trac-loc short for traction lock. If your car is a non PP then you have either an open or trac-loc.

This is basically a ford trac-loc, same basic design.

this type of diff has a few drawbacks, the clutches tend to wear out, and you need to add friction modifier to the oil for it work properly, too much or too little and you can have problems.

The 2018-2019+ GT PP or EB PP’s all come with iron pumpkins and Torsen.

The 2018-2019+ iron case will be coated black with a cast aluminum rear cover. Also to note, the 2018-2019+ GT/EB PP rear covers will have the included threaded port for the rear axle temp sensor.

A) The 2018-19+ GT w/ MT82 came w/ Torsen and 3.73’s.

B) The 2018/19 GT or EB w/10R80 came w/ Torsen and 3.55’s.

This is from my 2018 showing the axle temp sensor in the rear diff cover:

TIP:
- If the rear diff has Trac-loc guts, you won't be able to see through it with axles removed. There will be a "bar" in the hole which is for the spider gears.

- If the rear diff has Torsen guts, you'll be able to see through it with axles removed.

As i remember the diff for the 3.15 is different than for the 3.55. So getting an entire pumpkin with 3.55 gears would be easiest/probably cheaper. Also, if i remember correct, v6 had aluminum pumpkin and so did gt auto (at least 6r80), non pp.

OBTW They're all over ebay and in the Mustang specific salvage yards.

Sorry but can I add a question to someone elses thread?

Photos below from my car which is a 2018 GT with MT82 (Australian spec - so a mix of PP1 and Premium I believe) with magneride.

Reading your info above it suggests that with the Iron housing, aluminium cover and temp sensor (which it has all 3) it should be a 3.73 with Torsen. I had read somewhere that the Aus Spec cars had the other LSD.

Apologies re the untidy black underseal.... I cleaned it off the sticker as best I could!

Is there any way to confirm either way?

Your diff is a 3.55 ratio, it is written on your label. I have a 2019 Bullitt and have obtained the window sticker which specifies 3.55 ratio, it also states limited slip, (not Torsen)

Cheers, I assumed that the 3l55 was the ratio but was interested that the Aus spec cars seem different in a number of ways

Yes, we get dudded in Aust. We miss out out n many instances, even with the Bullitt. We don’t get the green stitching on the dash or the steering wheel, the Torsen diff, the centre gauges etc. I don’t know why this is the case, I thought it would have been easier to build them the same as the US version, albeit in rhd.
Maybe someone smarter than me could explain?
