I wouldnt call a gt350/R a status symbol. Not for me anyway. I have nothing at all in my possession that shows that and dont really want it. Exclusivity has nothing to do with status symbol TO ME, but it probably does to others. I just like the wow factor of cars you dont see everyday. I guess some people would tie that directly to status symbol though

I'm not buying cars because I want to be the only guy on the block with one. I'm buying them because they're good cars. The more good cars are out on the street, the fewer bad ones I have to see.

Also worth noting that apparently there are 20k or so GT500s out there and I rarely see one, so there goes that theory for both of us.

FWIW, there was almost 20,000 GT500's produced in the first 2 years of the 8 year production run but certainly agree with your points.

Ford keeps their specialty cars at around 5k to 6k a year and have done so for quite some time. Its because they know their market and what they can build and sell easily. You dont want to market like chevy does and overbuild and let them set on the lot/ or sell gobs under msrp.
If this does run until 2018 i expect around 4 to 5k made for a total 350 run of 16 or 17k. That number should fill the needs of the masses. The heads will turn to the gt500 next and several of the 350 owners will trade in their cars for it creating a nice 350 used market and then the next 350 will come. Rinse repeat

People who don't care about cars won't see the car for what it is but they know what a big bag of money sitting in your driveway looks like. In that way, it can be to non-car people. I know a ton of people who gives ZFs about cars and see anything other than a cheap econobox as showing off.

In talking with marketing director Jim Owens at the track tour the GT350 and its motor program were pitched and concieved around a 2 year run with the voodoo specific to the GT350 program

On May 4th, 2016 ~ 4pm PST at Buttonwillow Raceway someone asked how long the GT350 would be in production.

Jim Owens answered, to some effect, that “it is probable that we may still see them in production for 2018”.

I know several guys where video recording Jim’s “speech” session because Jim Marietta and Ted Sutton where in attendance in my, Red, group.
So maybe it’s on YouTube somewhere? :shrug: ;)

Believe me, both car people and non-car people see the GT350 as a special vehicle. There are lots of people at my work that don't care about cars but ask me about mine. It can be a little embarrassing at times.

So I'm at Chateau Elan for the TrackGuys Sebring event... and after an extensive chat w/ a Ford R&D from Dearborn this evening (we talked alot about the FoRS and the new Raptor), he said there is a good possibility the GT350 could be offered/extended to MY2018. Obviously way too early to even announce but FP hasn't ruled it out just yet.

Additional evidence it was only originally planned as a 2 year run as many have stated previously if they are only now considering the possibility of committing to a MY2018. Wouldn't bank on it as this car gets a lot of well deserved accolades but is somewhat unique in use/intent and I'm guessing demand is not as great as perusing this enthusiast forum would suggest despite acknowledging that ADMs have affected that demand. It is in the end a $60K Mustang, $20K more than a GT which fits most every need a mustang owner has, competes with a GT500 that beats it in ways that are important to many mustang buyers, and faces stiff competition with a Camaro at a cheaper price. Gentleman's bet that the bean counters at Ford got it right with the 2 year planned run. Only my thoughts.

I think that the most compelling reason that they might not make them 2018 *and def not 2019* is because they will be getting trumped by Camaro for performance AND price at that point. They will need to step it up by deploying the GT500. Yes, I know the Camaro isn't as "special" as the Shelby but that only goes so far.

GT500 + Mach 1 seemed plausible for 2018. If the GT350 is still produced in 2018, where does that leave the other cars? Unless they make all three, which would be a sight to see! :ford:

IMO they dont want to overextend themselves. They had a plan initially and i think, in the end they will stick to it.
