2018 Mustang refresh?

The C&C crashing thing is getting old. All of the mouth breathers who line up along the road to watch cars leave our local weekly cruise night heckle all of the Mustang people with this.

Blame it on the jack knobs that can't drive, along with Ford's weak stability control. My 2014 GT convertible was easy to fish tail in. If I wasn't an experienced driver with HPDE experience it could be easy to pull a stunt like that & it end badly.

That said, I've been trying to fishtail / power oversteer in my 2017 GT PP and haven't even been able to yet.

Cars & Coffee CRASHING phenomenon. Meaning Mustang guys going to show off in their cars AND not knowing how to drive AND crashing them in front of an audience.

Oh, that is what the reference is to. I have been going to cruise nights and cars shows since the 80s and bone heads trying to show off and crashing or breaking their cars is not a new phenomenon and it isn't limited to Mustangs either.

Anyhow, I think the interviewee blew it off correctly. That interview was pure fluff, nothing substantive, unfortunately. That being said, I think cosmetically the changes will be minimal in 2018. While I love the GT350 look, I think it does a bit of a disservice to the GT350 owners to make the regular GT look like it in the next refresh (Ford has essentially done the same thing in the S197 and the GT500 look being partially applied to the future GT refreshes). I would expect some lighting treatment, light body work, and engine tuning & tweaking, but nothing too major. Similar to the degree of "refresh" that the Fusion just underwent.

If it goes anything to the Miata/Charger mutant-bastard child that was hinted at earlier, I think I and others would walk away from Ford forever!

The important and significant parts for '18 will be underneath. Decent engine updates, 10R80 and a massaged performance pack. Some more options similar to the Shelby. Sure, there will be some minor exterior and interior changes, as you'd need to do for a refresh.

‘It Keeps Us Linked’: Ford Retirees Relish Visit to Product Development Showroom

DEARBORN – Ford retirees learned more about the company’s vision and strategy for success, plus got a sneak peek at some new model properties during their visit to the Product Development Showroom Wednesday, Sept. 21.

The Ford Retired Engineering Executives group heard from Moray Callum, vice president of Design, and Doug Szopo, executive director of Global Product Planning and Strategy, during its monthly meeting.

Szopo presented Ford’s plans for its core and emerging business, highlighting the profit pillars, Lincoln strategy and emerging opportunities in electrification, autonomy and mobility.

Callum followed with a presentation on new products planned for the next few years, explaining the timeline for releasing each product and the design choices that went into them.

“One of the things we’re looking at is how to make interiors more usable, so we’re spending quality time with our user experience colleagues and also our interface colleagues to find out how we make products more intuitive and easier to use,” Callum said.

A handful of pre-production vehicles were also on site for the retirees to see up close.

Retiree Dennis Lex said the presentations were outstanding, and that he appreciated hearing about the evolution of the company and its strategy for the future. Many retirees still speak the “Ford language,” and it’s fun to come back and talk to executives at a high level, he said.

“A lot of our retirees, we spent our whole careers here,” he said. “When I drive down Michigan Avenue past World Headquarters, I see my name on the building. Nobody else does, but I do. That’s how loyal these people are. … Being able to come here, being able to see this and being up to speed on what’s coming in the future, that makes our day.”

Retirees Jack Burns and Dave Ashland also enjoyed their visit to the showroom and hearing the executives’ presentations.

“The retirees who come to this kind of thing, they’ve got the industry and they’ve got Ford in their blood,” Burns said. “This type of event, especially talking at the level of Moray Callum and Doug Szopo, it keeps us linked.”
