No, just saying since the current S550 has 302 cuin, maybe Ford will introduce a updated 427 which would eliminate the need to add turbo to attain the HP numbers of the competition.

I am not sure how much the current 302 platform has left
The trend is for shrinking the motors, not making them larger. Emissions, and CAFE, and all that jazz being what it is, after all.

Don't like it, myself, but it is what it is. GM pulled all the stops to get that 6.2L to behave. Don't think GM has anything left in terms of efficiency gains on the motor. Cylinder deactivation was about the end of that list. I have to wonder if GM will start shrinking down displacement too, actually.

Yep. There's always something better on the horizon. No matter when you buy in, there will come that moment when the next thing is revealed and you'll get that inevitable twinge of disappointment.

Perhaps the only escape from this is to buy a classic that's already obsolete many times over...but it's something you already know you'll love regardless of what comes next.

Hmm..maybe it's time to go hunting for that '65-'70 fastback.
This is spot on. I've contemplated many times picking up a classic muscle car to daily drive. The beauty is, as long as you take care of it...it's likely to appreciate over time.

On a side note, instead of playing the BS waiting game...peeps should buy what they wan't now. After a few years when the warranty has given way (and the vehicle is payed off), throw a Whipple on it and call it a day. Due to government emissions and fuel economy, the horsepower wars are not sustainable. There is going to be a cap eventually on how much horsepower they are going to be able to squeeze out of these motors before costs get out of hand. Everyone that is waiting for the bigger/badder mustang is going to be in for a disappointment when they come out in another 5 years, adding on an extra $5k-$8k price tag. Sure they will be faster, but not faster than what you could have had....a debt free, 650rwhp s550.

The only things IMHO worth waiting for would be a technological jump in transmissions (10 speed)...and only for those who are looking for an auto.

For me it's about the looks.

Sometimes the re-fresh or new model can take a car a step back, especially in the style department. Of course taste is subjective, but I thought the Dodge Charger that came out in 2006 is a lot better looking than today's current version, style-wise. Better lines, more balanced look. Today's version just seems watered down...

I think the current iteration of this car will prove to be one of the best looking Mustang models ever produced. Perhaps one that will be a base for styling and looks 30 years from now? After the Fastback models of the 60's I didn't care for any of the later versions until the S550 came long...

On order '17, but still looking at '18
Hope the possibility of Avalanche Grey availability as well. Now that would be beautiful!

18my only way i will be swayed enough to trade would be a tremec gearbox a stronger stock clutch, and a hp bump to at least 460 hp and 460tq if so im sure many will trading up! Even if the trans was a 2-3k increase or offer mt82 and tremec as selectable option. I would check that option in a heartbeat. Just like the pp it is worth the $$

I think anyone with a S550 shouldn't even worry about the 2018 refresh or any refresh until the mustang drops significant pounds.

I wouldnt worry about lbs there are many things you can do to get the gt to 3600 lbs easily.

But a 3600 starting weight is better than what it is now

I agree but im not a big fan of aluminum panels i would have preferred if mine had steel hood and front fenders but i can live with it. That hood is heavy too being aluminum i still havent figured that out yet.

What is the variance between a carbon fiber hood and the stock alum hood?

Keep in mind the hood has no struts - plus it is a big sob. Easy to misjudge when many vehicles these days do have struts and are typically much smaller.

Probably 20lb maybe more it's pretty heavy to be aluminum.
The top side of the hood is aluminum ... the bottom half is still steel (check it with a magnet), so that's why it's still pretty heavy.

Yeah. First time I opened one I assumed it was cast iron.

Know wonder it's so heavy I had a ranger with an aluminum hood and it was a feather compared to a ranger with steel hood.
