For those thinking glass roof you should check the photos again, pretty sure there is a fold in the roof if you look at the reflections. Pretty sure glass is always smooth.

Honestly if it were a glass roof, they would have had it camouflaged

I just haven't warmed up to the S550 front end design (although the interior and rear of the car look great). Maybe the '18 refresh or the S650 will win me over. Come on Ford; you lost me for several years. You want to earn my business again? Give the next Mustang a musclecar look! It should not look like a sports car!

I was like you, loved the rear and the interior, but then saw the Shark tribars on, and really liked them, but did not like the badge as was used to the 09 S197 which had the badge with the big round lights this looked rather naked. then saw the CS front and badge, and i was in love :lol:

Personally, I dont think would do that, consider its muscle car and that would cause drag. The MKZ is a luxury car and most wont care about drag.

And I really hope they wouldn't do it that way, all for sunroofs but thats just bone out fugly!

The Mustang isn't a muscle car for most of its customers, its a sporty personal car, just as it's always been. Most customers would never care about a loss of top speed that might come from including such a sunroof, but they'd gladly pay a $2K premium to have a panoramic sunroof.

You always have to keep in mind that MOST of Mustang's customer base are NOT hardcore enthusiasts like us.

That being said, when the Mustang did offer a glassroof, most did not come with it. Or were enough ordered in significant numbers to make Ford want to include it in the design of the S550.

Although, if I remember correctly, didn't the glass roof option always become available with the mid-cycle refresh? It wasn't always available on S197.

I remember a Q&A on this site a long time ago where the Ford engineer was asked about a Glass Roof and I can't remember exactly what was said it was something along the lines of "we will not offer a fixed glass roof initially on the platform".

Or something like that, crap I'm going to search for that post all day.

Makes perfect sense. It's one of those high dollar, experiential options that might just get someone to upgrade from a 15 to a new Mustang, and might entice new buyers that might not have considered one before.

Correct. I'm almost certain it was introduced in 2009...likely after it had been decided that the cost could be amortized over 5 model years. IIRC, this was also one of the primary reasons that the 2010 and 2013 refreshes kept the exact same roof.

I'd totally believe this.
These insights give us clues into how these development costs are managed.

Yes it was a mid lifecycle addition, but if it was popular then Ford would had included it in the new design.

When Ford was asked about why there was no glassroof on the S550, I believe they claimed that the contours of the roof prevented it.

I personally believe it wasn't popular enough to justify the added manufacturing requirements.

For those talking about power, Topnotch posted back in May that 2018 "could see":
2.3 w/350hp
5.0 w/450hp
5.2 w/550hp

Not saying 100% those are the numbers but I wouldn't expect more than that. All are well within the usual mild refresh expectations.

It also adds weight (weight is bad mkay) and it adds it in the wrong place (high above the center of gravity).
