Was out last night and the low oil pressure light came on, I noticed my oil was low, I topped it up and now it’s making this ticking noise, sending it into the dealer this week but is this something that’s going to require a rebuild?

Going to do an oil change this afternoon to see if that fixes anything.

I’m not the most experienced person on this forum but I think that sounds pretty normal; kinda sounds like the injectors.

how much oil did you have to add?

how many miles ago was last oil change?

maybe you just never paid attention to the sound before?

I recently had an oil change (every 5k miles and full synthetic 5w30) at the dealer and within a few hundred miles had the ‘BBQ tick’ that the 5.0 Coyote is known for.

I put in an 11oz can of Liqui Moly MoS2 and it went away.

have used this before in my GT as well as other cars and think its great.
Used Liqui Moly Ceratec once in the GT already but as noticed, it doesnt get rid of anything permanently , just does a better job of friction reduction and keeping the tick at bay until the next oil change happens which can reintroduce the sound.
(normal and plenty documented)

MoS2 is much cheaper so I suggest that over the Ceratec and based off my experience.

I probably added 3-4 quarts, which overfilled it when I changed the oil, so it wasn’t as low as I thought.

last oil change was about 7 months ago, maybe 7500kms/4000miles

I feel like I’ve noticed it before, although quieter when next to buildings but my exhaust is loud so it’s hard to hear unless you listen for it.

No noticeable change after a full oil change, however small metal shavings in the oil.

Going to take it to the dealer this week to get it looked at this week.

feel like I hear a lot of f150s make this noise, it’s quite noticeable now.

thanks for the reassurance at least 😂

the 2018 also holds 10qts of oil.

what did the dipstick show?

a low oil could come on even if your oil level is ok, just could be a bad sensor

I seem to notice my fuel injectors more so when I am at a drive thru and it echos off the wall of the building.

Hopefully the dealer tells you its not an issue 😉

once you get a fresh oil change I suggest using the Liqui Moly as an added measure.

also, make sure to use 5w30 oil as Ford changed over to that even though the 2018 originally showed as 5w20.

So I took it to my local Performance shop and the guys thought timing chain and guides until I showed them the metal flakes from the oil change., the oil was completely metallic… which indicated bottom end bearing damage.

The car was still running with no issue, but was a ticking time bomb literally. Instead of opting to rebuild and throw a bunch of money into a new engine, I traded it in. The dealer didnt comment or mention the tick.

So now I’ve got a new to me 2021 GT premium… with lots of warranty.

Think I got extremely lucky the engine didn’t seize/fail between first low pressure sign and trade in.

I dont think I asked or it was mentioned…
how many miles were on your ‘18 GT?

Did you drive it hard a lot or often?

Congrats on the ‘21 GT.
did you buy it Certified from a Ford dealer?

From what my service guy told me, the 2021 is one of the best years for the GT as far as reliability.
Plus they came with all the added safety features.

Since your deal is already done and your old car is traded in, perhaps mention to the dealer about the ‘one time’ the oil pressure light came on and you noticed it was a little low so topped it off but heard some ticking.
Service center said there were some metal flakes in the oil at oil change but car drove fine. 🤔
At least then you mentioned it so its on them to check, if they care, before reselling.

Glad you were able to get out before that money bomb went off. 😉

It had 96k kms so like 50-60k miles.

it was my daily on good weather days, I definitely drove it hard when I was able to.

yeah purchased from one of the local certified ford dealers, official warranty with premium care for 4 years.

honestly my previous car had a lot of problems I bought it used and I had

differential carrier bearing ‘explode’ literally what they wrote in the service invoice. Requiring a new diff.

Then torque converter failed (has transmission chatter sound)

exhaust manifold had to be replaced.

All those items were fixed under powertrain/extended warranty which ran out before this issue, my performance shop basically said I’d be looking to rebuild but with the issues it already had I figured getting into something newer/nicer was the move.

I mentioned it in passing after I’d talked to them after having the deal done, and they said it ran and drove fine, so my money is on them not caring.

kind of wild since the only mods the car had was a catback exhaust.

It was serviced well within its recommended service intervals, feel like I had a lemon, but never knew it. Last year for all that work and waiting on parts I probably had 4 months in couldn’t drive it.

thanks for the help man, hoping this ones a golden ticket and I don’t need the warranty.

My 23 started ticking a few days ago, so I tried adding half a quart of oil. No more ticking for now at least. My oil level was dead center between the dipstick marks. Now it touches the top mark.

Keep an eye on it, I think these cars burn oil, not sure if they have a low oil level sensor or not, but mine never came on so I’m going to be checking my weekly at a minimum to make sure it’s good.

sounds like it was time for an upgrade anyways.

I bought mine end of last August with 6800 miles on it and it came Ford Gold Certified so I’m good for 7yrs/100k miles from the in-service date
(basically 5+yrs/ 93k miles)

mine is my first American muscle car as I’ve always had VWs for the most part aside from a few Jeep Wranglers.

really loving the GT and been slowly tailoring to what I envision it should look like.

enjoy the ‘21 GT and definitely be sure to use some Liqui Moly when you do oil changes 😉

what color did you get?
mine is Carbonized Grey Metallic

quite a few changes since I got it; just need the new springs as the last piece of the puzzle

how many miles on it?

what temp was it outside?

i never noticed the ‘BBQ / Typewriter tick’ until after a recent oil change at 15k miles.
that trait is intermittent and not a constant tick.

fuel injectors are quite loud on these cars

BBQ tick sorta sounds like intermittent metal expanding and contracting, kinda like a manifold getting real hot and cooling down… sort of a ping
ex - tick…. tick tick……..tick.. tick tick tick………tick..tick

best I could do for an example. haha

at your next oil change, add an 11oz bottle of Liqui Moly… either MoS2 or the more expensive Ceratec.

they will help but I recommend using the MoS2 at every oil change as I’ve had great experience in both of our vehicles.

Man she’s a beauty! Funny enough my new one is the exact same color.

Here’s the old vs new

dealer wanted to keep my wing on the old one and the exhaust so I ordered a new one already 😂.

going to just go with an x pipe on the new since it has active exhaust and hope it’s loud enough.

probably paint my calipers red again as well as it really makes them pop.

The white letters on the tires is also a nice touch

both are very nice looking

mine came with same exact blade spoiler as what is on yours.

recently swapped out for the Scott Drake one which is sort of a less obnoxious wicker bill style.

i did an H pipe on mine and think it sounds perfect; a bit deeper than the X pipe style but i’m sure either is good 😉

I also recently spent almost 4hrs getting off the stock racing stripes that were sun damaged… that was an MFer to get all that adhesive off and then buff the heck out of the paint

Going to do an oil change this afternoon to see if that fixes anything.
Terrifying, what did the oil look like? How much came out the car?

Direct injection is loud which can be unsettling if you aren’t expecting it. Fingers crossed the noises and oil pressure light is a fluke.
