Hello all,

I wanted to see if this is normal or if anyone knows whats going on.

After my drive to work this morning (60mph for 20 minutes) I parked the car and before turning off the car, I noticed it was idling really rough. It felt like a boat rocking in water. I hopped out of the car, popped the hood and heard the klacking noise in the video. Also you could visable see the engine rocking. Additionally there's a sound that sounds like an old receipt printer coming from what I think is the DI pump. Its really loud.

After restarting the engine the "klacking" and rough idle are gone but the DI pump sound is constant. This has happened about 10 times now since owning the car. Check out the video and tell me what you think?

Car specs: 2018 GT manual. 7200 miles. 04/2018 build date. Non-PP

I do think this was a case of the DI pump making some noise, and then smoothing out after restarting the car.

I'm more worried about whatever is causing the klacking, simply because you could tell the engine was struggling via rough idle. I would take it to the dealer but I cant get it to do it on command. I know fluid under 3000psi can make some weird noises so I'm not as worried about that. I was hoping maybe someone would have experienced this before or knew what may be causing it :(

The klacking sound is valve train to me. Got enough oil? Recently changed? A stuck lifter would be noisy and cause a rough idle.

I noticed the valve train quieted way down when I went to 5w50 because of Whipple SC recommendation.

Yeah I'm running 5w-30 and its full. Do you think stepping up to 5w-40 would be wise?

Take this for what it's worth....

I don't think there is a downside to 5w40. Your signature indicates VA so it can get cold but the 5w40 would be OK in that region. I would give it a shot.

I noticed when the factory 5w20 came out while warm it was like water coming out. Just crazy thin.

I have the same internals as you and run the 5w50. Just let it warm up a little before you give it the crop!

I have that same zapping sound. I think thats the high pressure fuel pump.

That's good to know, I think? After the restart the car is back to normal. Maybe its normal and im just overreacting but the sound mixed with a rough idle really caught my attention.
