2018 Ecoboost Shift issue

The past few months I’ve been having an issue. When I first start the car, I can shift into reverse (it’s an automatic) then into drive and it works fine. But if the car has been running for a little while, and then I shift into reverse and back to drive, there is a delay of 5-10 seconds where it won’t click into drive. Just goes to neutral.

I’ll likely take it in for repair but was curious is anyone has some insight into what’s going on. Thanks.
