The 2018 engine tick is the direct injectors. I had a 2016 that actually had the BBQ tick and it sounds more like a sporadic metal cooling off type of tick.

Well, there's multiple 'ticks' and I really think a lot of variation on what people think is 'the dreaded tick'. The Injectors should tick and it'd be a consistent, repeatable tick. I think all S550s will have injector tick.
The concerning tick is more from the bottom of the car I believe, and isn't a consistent, repeatable, tick. Much like Enzo said, sporadic almost exhaust cooling off sound.
That's all to my understanding by the way, I haven't yet got my car, just based on what I've read in a few forums, and watched via the youtubes. I also think that while it's annoying/concerning, it's also a little blown up above its warrant. If I get the tick in my car, damn. I'll just keep an eye on it, especially scrutinize my oil during changes for metal bits. And listen for any worsening.. I'm willing to bet that some cars will go forever with the tick and be fine, some others may have it for a week and develop an issue. Engines are all unique little snowflakes ya know...

My headers tick when I turn the engine off and they cool down from the heat expansion. I should go make a Youtube video about it and threaten Ford.

My 2017 makes sporadic bottom end noises when it's stone cold, but once she's warmed up nothing out of the normal. 33k miles so far, tuned with longtubes.

The video is exactly how the service manager explained to me my concern when I got home and heard this on my car months before I ever saw this on the internet. It makes perfect sense and I am not the least bit concerned with it. Hopefully I'll be in a used 13/14 GT500 within another year or so anyway. So deep pockets fans go trade your 13/14 GT500's in and over saturate the used market with them so I cam get one for a good price.
