I am enjoying the latest speculations. I hope the last three comments prove to be accurate.

Here's what I don't get. Some people say they don't want a gt500 / Mach 1 with a ecoboost V6 because it's not traditional. They say ford knows better because of the love customers have for a V8. Well honestly no traditional mustang ever had AWD either. Some people assume just because the GT350 has splined front wheel bearing hubs that the next great mustang will be AWD. I HIGHLY doubt ford will do a AWD super stang. But if they did I'd take a 600hp + ecoboost 3.5L with AWD. I don't care if it has a V8 or not as long as it's fast and handles better then the GT350. People doubt me, but the V8's days are numbered. When a manufacturer makes the worlds best selling vehicle or truck and offers 3 v6 engine options and 1 v8 you can bet your check the cars will follow. Before you know it the 5.0 F150 will be a thing of the past. Especially when they just upped the F150 3.5 ecoboost tq another 40 lb-ft and a 10 speed auto trans. Mark my words.

Interesting!

SVR though? That's Jaguar/Range Rover related, anyway, isn't it? (ie F-Type SVR just launched)......so why would Ford be involved in that?

I await spyshots of the GT500 at the 'Ring in the next few weeks then :D
I was informed about a week ago that Jaguar had been cleaning the garage a week prior to that. However, after some inquiries, thePill was informed that a Focus RS500 prototype was being tested.

Needless to say, thePill was temporarily bummed... until I found out that the RS500 being tested was from the local FoMoCo shop in Koln. In other words, Jaguar typically doesn't lend out its garage to Ford when European models are being tested. We can confirm this manually when we see an EU plate instead of the US tags. Although, it's not insane to think the Focus can and does use the garage too.

thePill also figured the SVR was coming and Jaguar was cleaning up for that... so far, not the case.

The next Nurburgring race is coming soon however, it's on the 3 mile track I believe.

Anyway, if Jag is moving stuff out, it means someone else is coming in and not Jag/Land Rover.

I think it's very feasible that a new prototype Focus RS500 is using the Jag garage. But, I'm not sure that's the vibe people are getting that are observing.

Thank you sir!! I don't know how many times I have shook my head in disbelief and laughed reading people posting AWD. WHAATT?!??!

If I truly wanted to rain on the zl1's parade, I'd have a prototype on display in LA this November... with some very basic numbers. It doesn't need to go on sale until Jan-March 2017 in a limited run and I believe it's been in development since shortly after the GT350 program started.

I know they're testing the proposed Focus RS500 at the Gring lately, so who knows... maybe a GT500 and an RS500 coming out at the same time?:eyebulge::eyebulge:

What wouldn't make sense to me is....

Ford giving the ecoboost treatment and AWD to a Focus of all things, but not to s v8 Mustang...

A v8 ecoboost AWD mustang would be killing everything and would be selling like hotcakes.

Sure they could do a v6 and it would be fast. But not as much as the 8. And it wouldn't have the potential of an 8 down the road.

It would also sound like crap compared to the 8.

Moving the F series to v6 mostly is to get ready for new CAFE standards. The more you sell of something with better mileage, the better your average.

The v8 won't be killed off. But it will be more rare. The Mustang is definitely the place for it.

The GT would have been better off too but Ford needed a statement piece to make the 6 look attractive.

I still see an ecoboost 8 in the 500 replacement.

Do you realize what the mustang would weigh with a V8, AWD, auto trans? Even in an aluminum body it would be a pig. It's not gonna happen. Not to mention there is no room for a V8 twin turbo AWD mustang. The GT ecoboost is a beast. Look at what they just accomplished in a short period of time! I know it's light, I know it's mid engine etc. don't count on the V8 to have a life time. It's days are numbered in the F150 and mustang. I agree a V8 sounds awesome. But sound isn't selling me on performance. They already do active sound to 4 and 6 cylinder engines through the speakers.

The focus is a pocket rocket. I'll never get why people think a mustang has a possible future of AWD. Not gonna happen. :headbonk:

The same naysayers probably would've been adamantly denying that Ford would put a FPC in a Mustang and not the GT.

Don't knock what you don't know yet.

Meaning you think the AWD will happen in a mustang?

Meaning I think it's possible, yes... And if Ford chose to go radical as they did with the FPC 350, it's something that they've been mum on and so tight-lipped that whatever they're truly doing it has to be a gamechanger.

If the F-Type, as shown above, can take a 567hp 5.0L V8 to an AWD platform and turn sub-3.3" 60-mph sprints, why can't Ford put that in a Mustang?

It's easy to say that the 350 transcended the mustang from the typical ponycar roadcourse auto it used to be and now into the realm of two-seat sportscars. Why can't the GT500 transform the typical musclecar drag queen into a drag/track King by implementing AWD?
