Recently got a 2016 GT still on Sync 3 version 1.0, and tried to update directly to 3.0 according to Ford’s instructions. The car went through the updating process and eventually said it completed, and prompted me to restart the car. However, my head unit never actually updated and still says I’m on 1.0. I took it to the dealer and they said they can’t get the update to take either, and that I need a new unit. Have I effectively bricked my unit, or does anyone have any experience/suggestions as to how I can fix this without paying for a new unit? Thanks!

After that initial install attempt I tried to do the 1.0 to 2.2 non nav update with a new 64 gig flash drive, and I'm getting an incompatibility error. I'll try again, but I don't seem to be having any luck :/

For most vehicles before 2018 the flash drive should be a USB2.0 not 3.0 , some have been successful but you are better off with 2.0... (black not blue)
being it's 64G, I'm betting it's 3.0
an old 4 or 8 even 16 would be fine...

And ExFat or Fat32 for the format.
(edit for better spelling)

Format your flash drive as exFAT, not NTSF.

I first tried the update with a 32 gig usb 2.0 drive, and it threw me a space/incompatibility error, so I got a new flash drive with more space. I’ve reformatted to exfat every time I’ve tried the update, but it keeps giving me the same error. I’ll upload a picture of the error when I get a chance, but it seems like I might just need a new APIM module.

So you got the error when you tried to copy the files, or when it tried to do the update from the flash drive?

If it's when you did the update, sounds like you got the wrong install files....
