I am extremely interested in a drive in this new s550.

Ride, & ride quality are two at the top of my short list. I want to see how close Mulally got to the BMW overall ride & the quality of ride.

How does it feel... on the road.

I don't think I would use a rental car as a comparison personally. They are usually base spec, and beaten to hell and back. My last rental car only have 4000 miles on it and the alignment was already way off, most likely due to someone curbing the thing or something like that.

It's also possible the version of the Flex they were referring to was the sport version or something like that, and the steering is a different animal than the ride altogether. I wouldn't worry too much until you drive the car, and I seriously doubt it will drive like your rental.
I'm not talking about a normal rental. It was a dealership vehicle (wink, wink, test drive) used while my car was in for maintenance. As long as the "Comfort" steering mode is close to what it is on the 2013/14 models when they are set to "Comfort", I should be perfectly fine with it. If it's much looser, hopefully "Normal" mode is tight enough to make up the difference.

I do alternate the steering modes on my 2013 quite a bit. When I'm just cruising to work or going a longer distance, I'll put it in "Comfort". When I'm taking a shorter drive and/or are just out to have some fun, I'll put it in "Sport".

That's been said about a hundred times, but so far nothing to substantiate it. Anybody get any measurements?
I don't have measurements, but that was also my immediate experience. The gauge sizes in the IP had to have been different enough for it to have shrunk. It also was mentioned in one of the early magazine articles (Car and Driver, I think) by one of the Ford interior designers.

It would be a great fakeout if the diameter wasn't smaller and it felt the way it did.

Regarding concerns about ride quality and feeling like a Flex, I presume that comment was basically meant to compare the composure over irregular surfaces in the road. I have the stock suspension on my 2010 (no performance pack) and it is manageable over smooth or slightly bumpy roads. Where I notice the movement of the live axle is over sharp or multiple bumps in a row, particularly those that are encountered when cornering. The IRS should "soak" those up, and perhaps that is where the comparison basis is from the trainer.

The recent Forbes article where the Chief Engineer describes the ride and handling gives some additional good insight into this.

I am almost positive Pericak mentioned it in one of the videos. I think it was the one with Raj Nair and Steve Ling but I can't find it now. I think that's enough to substantiate it but I have yet to see any measurements.

I am talking about the standard leather seats that are heated and cooled.
