2015 Mustang - Underpowered?

Lol absolutely, my mom worked for American Airlines for 27 years, so ive been into aircraft the majority of my life. One of the reasons I'm in the Air Force, however, despite the misconceptions, i do not fly :thumbdown:

I have already found myself at 10-15 mph faster on familiar mountain roads than I am used to. Wouldn't have known if I hadn't checked the speedometer. The car really hides speed well. Smooth, refined, capable, sophisticated. A whole bunch of adjectives that never went in the same sentence as "Mustang GT" before.

The speed sensations you feel in flight, or in a car

When you're flying on a commercial airline, does it feel like you're moving through the air at 400-500 MPH? Maybe during takeoff and landing only, but thats mostly due to the various sounds that create that sensation. Think of older less insulated cars as the aircraft taking off. The bumps in the runway, landing gear absorbing those bumps, and the airframe starting to flex in order to generate lift (also keep in mind most planes are 70's-80's models anways....some older). Then think of newer cars, in this instance an S550 as the cruising altitude of the flight. Less creaks and sounds, a less harsh outside environment create the illusion of going much slower than a couple hundred miles an hour.:eyebulge:

...are caused by acceleration. Once the airplane, or car reaches a certain speed, and is no longer accelerating, you will not feel "speed." The sounds, vibes, etc, mentioned earlier play a part. Torque also plays a big part in the "acceleration" feel. My SRT slams you in the seat because the torque comes on fast, but I've driven diesel trucks that slammed me in the seat harder. Mustangs have high revving motors, and the power keeps coming as they build speed and RPM. That is a major strength of the 5.0. In 1/4 mile races they finish strong at the end, because they are high revving motors.

Honestly, I was pretty surprised how quick the EcoBoost is

It pulls pretty from low-mid range RPMS, it's a substantial entry level upgrade to the old 4.0 V6 and 3.7 V6

2015 Mustang - Underpowered?
I've been reading a lot of guys saying "refined", "strong but not amazing/shocking/beast", "my ASSOMETER doesn't feel it", "not as thrilling as the 11').

How can a 440hp/400tq car be underpowered? It has almost double the HP and torque than the original Lambo Countach and a second quicker to 60 as well.

Help me out here, what is it?

Think I understand your question, I'm also sure you've answered it as well.
Their "ASSOMETER" is broken

in my opinion it's the lack of SHAKING, RUMBLING and any strange movements.
If the acceleration feels dampened to the driver and there's no outside noise either, you are going to perceive to be slow as molasses.

I think people are just missing that "RAWRRR" feeling, like you get on a motorcycle for example.

Nothing a good stiff pair of motor-mounts and cat-delete can't cure.

Depends on what you're coming from. If you've been driving a Geo Metro, it'll seem powerful. If you've been driving a Bugatti Veyron, it'll seem underpowered.

I don't like it.

How do I get it to "bruise your kidneys and peel your eyelids back taking you from 0-100 mph"?
I want this car, first, to impress me, and then to impress my wife, and then to impress every mate that I happen to take on a ride in it.

Would just getting an aftermarket exhaust do it?

Some background: I rode (sport) motorcycles for a lot of years in my past. Since then I had a lot of family sedans (lancer, mazda 3, civic...) and now I have a RR Prem GT coming in 19 days according to Coccus.

Maybe drive it and make up your own mind? There's plenty left on the table if you want a few extra numbers on the accelerometer. A tune and an exhaust should do the trick.


BTW, is RR Race Red or Ruby Red? I really think Ford should have ditched alliteration on one of these.

The car is a bit hindered by it's weight in my opinion.

It feels like this to me because my other car is a C7 Z51 which is making a bit more power and is lighter to boot. Both of my cars are manual transmissions and the acceleration in the S550 is a let down when switching between these cars. I stab the gas and the car kinda groans then starts moving, but doesn't have the feeling of instant on tire shredding from roll power or the pull like a freight train like the LT1 in the C7 does.

If I didn't own a C7 or had not owned a C6 Grand Sport I would probably have zero concerns, but I have so I have a tainted opinion. ;)

This is why we have these things called mods.

There should be a Thunderbird and it should be a beast. The Thunderbird lost it's job to Shelby many years ago and never really found it's feet in the lineup after that.
