This poll clearly illustrates that this forum is not at all indicative of the overall Mustang buyer demographic. Over 80% purchased are GTs? Wow! I'm betting that is at least 50% higher than the 'real' numbers will be...

But it's to be expected at this point in the game I suppose.

There are still lots of people around the forum that aren't 'die-hards' though. It just seems strange to me that the balance is so far out of whack vs the RL numbers.

There are lots of us 'enthusiasts' that are also on moderate incomes, what makes a forum like this more attractive to the performance nuts?

Obviously the numbers aren't scientific, but I just wouldn't think that they'd be super far off as a number of you are saying. Not that I don't believe you, I just find it strange.

I think people with moderate incomes/tighter budgets are typically going to be more inclined to be cautious with such a purchase decision and not jump in with both feet at this early stage. Sure, there are exceptions, but I suspect the majority of folks that have already ordered the car on this forum at this point are enthusiasts that are in a position to be more 'free' with their money and spend for the higher end model(s).

I believe that the general public -- the ones that are eventually going to skew the numbers toward the lower-tier models -- are not poking around in forums like this and pre-ordering the car at this point, with so much information yet to be revealed. Specs, drive impressions, head-to-head comparisons, fully functional Build & Price, etc. are all still forthcoming and are pretty important components of the purchase decision for most people. Not to mention I think it's safe to say that average consumers would prefer to see a car in the flesh... err metal... and DRIVE it before making their decision.

You're right, this poll is far from scientific. I fully expect that the real numbers will sort themselves out over time and that this model will trend similarly to previous ones, where the lower end trims will be prevalent. It may not ever be accurately reflected in THIS poll, as I believe it will always be a bit more skewed toward enthusiasts, but it will certainly be reflected in the actual sales numbers.

I reached out to my Nephew today and he was able to confirm that my requested changes to my order are showing in the system and he was able to send me my VIN. Build date is still listed as "TBD" in their system, however. He also snagged me a hard copy of the 2015 dealer guide for my collection of Mustang stuff.

I suspect that my order on the 20th (as well as other people who ordered that day) are probably listed the same way. Hoping for the tracking site to finally show my updates and a build date. I also think that the lack of build date is a possibility as to why the tracking website(s) haven't shown an update for quite some time, even though my car has been assigned a VIN #.

You are right.... For one, the majority of people that do get mustangs are not necessarily of the die hard types and hovering around forums like this... Personally, I am not a die hard for the stang but maybe a little obsessive at least till I get mine... Just trying to get a little amusement to pass the time

Seems like this dealership is behind the curve. Shouldn't they already have placed their first order? Other dealerships will have their allocations filled a full month ahead of them by now. Seems like a marketing ploy, but ultimately, they can't build your mustang until you tell them what you want.... I'd suggest Ruby Red! :love:

I asked that, they said that they could go in the system and change their dealer order to one of the ones that I have built. I guess since the order guide and order banks are just opening up maybe? Seeing how production is starting I guess dealers can still do that?

We can beat our heads against the wall theorizing the reasons and level to which this poll may be flawed all day. Bottom line is, there is little reason to believe that GTs will be in substantially higher demand now than they were for any previous generation... certainly nowhere near the percentages the poll reflects.

Reality is, the average consumer cares about purchase price, fuel economy and insurance rates as much as performance and will select their vehicle accordingly. Those lower-tier models, which offer a nice balance of performance and practicality, will constitute the majority of the vehicles purchased. The GT is for the rest of us...

I bet they have a bunch of interesting data attached to the numbers so they can slice and dice to answer all the questions I wish I could and am trying to surmise.

For instance, which model are 20-30 yr old females more likely to purchase. I'm pretty sure that demographic is completely lacking from this forum, or nearly so. So, very likely some of the demographics that don't participate here are the ones more inclined to the budget/economy models, but still like stylish sporty cars.

Sorry, as an engineer, these sorts of puzzles are interesting to me.

I think the male/female buyer demographics are a good point. I don't know what the current ratios are, but I know at one point a few years ago, females accounted for nearly 50% of Mustang sales. And I can all but guarantee a vast majority of those purchases were NOT GTs. I suspect that hasn't changed too much. I also think that females on enthusiast forums like this are by far the minority, which might help explain the weird percentages the poll reflects.

My thought was the dealers that are true car guys and typically have small dealerships ordered the car for themselves especially if they are only getting one. I find it interesting that depending on your Mustangs sales determines if you get an LE. chevy did the same thing with Corvette. I think there are only 2-3 dealers in MA allowed to order Corvetts.

Triple Yellow GT w/Performance Package

I ordered mine a few days ago. The dealer said mid September with a caveat of "hopefully". This is my first mustang so I hope I am not disappointed. I went for the triple yellow so I could attract as many cops as possible. The options I ordered were the performance package, enhanced security package and all weather floor mats. Dealer gave me the floor mats free (woo-hoo). I also got free oil changes for a year. Paid $33,700 but I will have to fork out the additional $2500 in Kansas sales tax (yee-ha). Luckily I don't have to pay the $700 in registration fees (military exemption).
