the 3.7L just came out in 2011. It's a modern state of the art DOHC engine.
No ford is not phasing it out. They've embrased it. They are using this engine in the 3.5L ecoboost trucks. Practically the same v6 engine family besides the different stroke and no turbo.

The new 4 cylinder ecoboost turbo is the new mpg winner. Only makes sense to make the 3.7L mustang engine attain proper sporty gearing instead of the mpg cheating gear ratio of 2.73 common in the 2011-2014 v6 mustangs.

Having Irs will hurt quarter mile times. Only makes sense to give sporty rear end gearing to the new mustangs to help compensate.

Ford no longer needs to cheat mpg figures with crappy gears. We can now finally have a proper balance mustang car.

Overall the v6 sounds like the real winner and better balanced car. It's horsepower is underrated to help market the ecoboost. Much lighter then the v8, much cheaper then the v8, Lighter than the 4 cylinder ecoboost. Couple of N/A bolt ons and the v6 can walk on the 4 cylinder turbo.
My sentiments exactly. I couldn`t have made the argument for the 3.7 V6 better myself. 2015 Mustang V6 Base Convertible with A/T and Upgraded 051A Equipment Package plus Spare Tire (minus) Spoiler Delete MSRP of $32,310. Now thats a lot of Bang for your Buck!

Stupid list. Everyone knows that Subaru vehicles have gotten crappy mileage up until 2010 or so. Ancient engines and transmissions. Thing is, they IMPROVED! Also, I can say for sure two of those cars don't have direct injection either.

2014 Forester XT - Rated at 22/28. - Not bad at all, and does great in real world.
2015 WRX STI - 17-23.. Short geared AWD sports sedan. They need to gain a little bit of mpg (still an old engine), but I don't think they need more than a couple with what is being offered with the car. Made a step in the right direction with the WRX. Now they need to upgrade the STI powertrain. I'm guessing that's coming very soon.

Anyway, I'm fine with 25mpg highway on the Stang. I think it's acceptable and never expected 28 like other people here claimed.
It's not a stupid list. The Speed3 has DI, less than 50% the engine size, is only front-wheel drive, is 400lbs lighter, and has nearly 200 less HP but gets approximately the same mileage as the 2015 stang GT.

The rest were just to further prove the point that the Mustang mileage is not BAD.

I'll repeat it again. Stupid list.

The point is that according to the window sticker, the mileage got WORSE!

Anybody able to find anything about the ecoboost auto?

I swear this thing just gets more and more disappointing with each info leak. Basically, IRS is the only reason to buy this car vs a 2014. Ford is really dropping the ball here...if they're holding out for 2016 due to the Camaro, I imagine a lot of people are going to get shafted for ordering early. There's no way that these numbers will hold up to competing cars, Ford has to know this...they don't even hold up to the outgoing model.

It's not a stupid list, he has a good point & no one knows if the mileage really got worse or if it was just overstated on the '11-'14

So, he takes other cars that everyone knows didn't get good gas mileage which aren't even competitors to the Mustang and it's a good list? Okay..

So you're saying Ford lied about the mpg on the 2011-2014 Stang.. Okay. Surprised they didn't update it along with the Fusion and CMAX EPA ratings then..

It's still based off of the same rating system that every manufacturer uses...it's a step backwards and doesn't really beat the competition, itself in the outgoing model, and especially isn't going to hold up against near future vehicles.

A new vehicle is suppposed to warrant positive change and show advancement over current vehicles...S550 doesn't even stack up against the S197's rivals. Something is very wrong here and it clearly explains why Ford has focused on everything BUT performance in their promotional videos and interviews. Something clearly went wrong IMHO...it's too obvious with all of the secrecy for nothing, it was damage control.

OK, here.

e90 BMW M3. Nearly identical weight to the s550. M3 has slightly less HP, over 100lbs less torque. Rear wheel drive. V8. Was one of the benchmark cars for the s550. 14 City / 20 Highway.

Happy now?

Not grouchy, just stating your list doesn't really mean anything. Element doesn't exist anymore. STI needs an udpate, that's for sure. It gets knocked for its gas mileage. Forester has been updated and gets much better mpg than what your 2006 shows. Not sure the Mazdaspeed 3 is made anymore either, but it is rated 2-3 mpg higher than Stang in city. Car will be updated and mpg will improve as well.

Yup, crappy gas mileage. I agree. Did you notice that the new one is rated higher?

Yea well not only did the new M3 drop displacement (4L to 3L), it also went from a NA V8 to a turbo 6....how could it NOT have improved? By your standards that's a pretty crappy comparison if we are discussing the 2014 to 2015 Mustang transition. We all know it's a carry over engine and a slight weight gain. What is the big shock here that I'm missing?

For all we know, these figures will be a single year issue and the new transmissions or powertrain changes in the pipeline will make this moot.

...the 2014 SS gets 16/24 and is a pig on wheels as we all know. The next Camaro sure as hell won't do anything short of gain significant mpgs even with the same engine lineup considering that it should match or maybe even better the Mustang in weight with a potential 300lb weight loss over the current car.

There's no logic behind anything that Ford has done here...

It sure did drop in displacement and pick up turbos and it sure did used to have crappy gas mileage. I think those numbers are good for a PERFORMANCE twin turbo 6.

I'm not even sure what's being argued anymore. Lol. I think Mustang gas mileage is decent, I just find it funny that it went down. I always wondered how it was rated at 18 in city.
