Honestly I don't see the GT besting the EB in any situation in hwy mpg's. (Maybe a possibility at 90+mph but I doubt it)

As for lower gearing, I would have to say wait for someone with experience to comment. You will have to go out on your own and test drive a 2014 w/ lower gear ratio's and compare them to the higher gear ratio's and see which suits you best. The 3.15 on the 2015 will probably feel better than the lower geared previous gens due to the improved low end torque, but time will tell.
Sorry I don't mean that the GT would ever get better mileage then the EB...what I'm asking is if you're driving around 70 to 80 wouldn't the eco-boost come down in miles per gallon closer to what a GT would be near because it would be working harder than the GT engine?

No worries but my post remains the same. 90+ it might get close.

70-80 Probably not as close. Although, the GT if it improves in mpg's, The gap already isn't that far off. It actually might improve as I think the standard gear ratio is lower now 3.15 vs the old 3.31. Some one please correct me if I'm wrong here.

not really, dont think either will start taking a huge areo hit till above 85. just a guess. one other thing we dont know is how many rpms these things pull at hi way speed. it is going to be less than i would have thought due to the tire diameters we have some tall tires that lower the effective gear ratio.

so many answers to be had with the first couple of test drives. my gti turns about 2750 rpm at 70 mph. i would doubt the eb pp with the 3.55 gears will be at less than 2400.

Car's really start getting effected by Aero starting at 60mph. what speeds do you drive your GTI at? my 07 notices a difference going 70 to 80.

i am a 9mph over the limit guy. except for the interstate. that is 74. due to mpg. but i spend most of my travels on back roads at ~65.

i think the mustang will be better at higher speed as it is not a hatchback/box. :)

Lol, me hating on the 4 cylinder when i've done nothing but defend it?

and ok if you say so. I already said it performs well but being a base car, it is aimed at the masses. It's intent is to balance performance and efficiency. Granted all cars do that to some degree but to me a performance car is way more in favor of performance than it is efficiency. If it weren't for the necessity of the EB to have over 300 hp to be competitive, Ford would have hindered it's performance in favor of more efficiency. Like I said the EB is a good performing car but it's like saying my Golf is a sports car when it is really only a "sporty" car.

Edit: maybe I should add in here that all these post are assumed with saying IMO
I just said that cause you wrongly assumed I was, and started calling names first like crazy & fanboy without even reading of perhaps completely misinterpreting my posts. So lets just forget about it..

Sorry I just can't grasp why anybody would advocate for a higher (worse) gear ratio in a performance car. This is a Mustang not a Prius
Exactly, my 2013 Ford C-Max Hybrid SE gets an average of 37.8 MPG combined City & Highway driving in very congested stop & go driving conditions. Don`t know (or care) what the Transmission or Axle Ratio gearing is either. Vehicle has plenty of power, handles well, roomy, and despite its CVT Automatic Transmission performs flawlessly. Mustang buyers who opt for the V6 or EB 2.3 I4 want (both) adequate performance as well as decent fuel economy too.

The top speed on a C-Max Hybrid is 115, so you're going to be constantly banging against the governor driving on the highway.

Maximum speed limit is 75 MPH in FL. Who`s going 115 MPH anyway? Gov Rick Scott in his Limo heading for his Mansion in Naples?

Depends on wind resistance with lower gearing, if it's too low you need more energy to push the car. and no, nothing wrong with my car, it's the nature of the beast of a small turbo. There is a dramatic difference in mpgs when going from 70 to 75 and obviously far more going to 80 mph. At 80 around 26-27 mpg's at 3,000rpms. 70 and below, 30 is doable.
Really has nothing to do with your car/motor specifically. Pretty much ALL combustion engine cars experience a substantial reduction in MPG for each 5 MPH increase above 55-60 MPH. The average MPG hit going from 70 to 75 is about 7-8%. Going from 70 to 80 is about a 13-15% reduction.

Higher Speed = Lower Mileage = Higher Cost. It's that simple.

Now You know just as well as I Do Phil, that just because the Speed Limit in Florida is 70 mph that doesn't mean that People are going to Obey the Speed Limit. If You're doing 70 you're going to get passed by 75% of the People, Like You're Standing Still. It's not uncommon to be going with the flow in a pack of Traffic and look down at Your Speedometer and Realize You're doing 80-90 mph.

So, I'm totally a new guy when it comes to gear ratios....

Can someone fill me in on why some like smaller ratio and some like bigger?
I got the GT premium without upgrading to any gear ratios, so I guess I got 3.15?

I mean anything is going to be a boost in power considering I am coming from my 13 v6.
