Was at my dealership a few days ago and looking at a few ´17 Shelby's they had in the showroom when a salesman came up to me and asked if he could be of any help !!!!

Explained to him about the cooling issues with base/tech cars and told him quite a few people were waiting on a solution from FP.

Then he goes on to say if i wanted to trade in my '16 for a base '17 that he would give me whatever my sticker price was for my '16.

Very tempted to jump ship if Ford doesn't come up with a solution soon.
Do it. I'll even ship him my '16 as well. He can have both of ours.

If I had the chance to not spend anymore money out of pocket and get a 17, I would do it today. Even though DIB is my favorite color and I have my car the way I want it right now just cant pull off the window tint and the clear bra...
Like i mentionned in my earlier post, it would cost me an additionnal 8K + 15% tx on top of that, so roughly $10K more.

I'd also lose my clear bra an tint as well.

Tough choice, I think you can buy the transmission with the cooler for less than that.

Okay, that's not so much of a no-brainer deal. But that's also why they'll give you sticker in trade on a used car.

If you can get a little more out of him due to the tint and clear bra it might be worth it. I know I really wish I had a '17 rather than a '16 - neglecting the fact that I've had a blast with the car for the last 8 months or so.

I wouldn't do it. Have you personally hit limp mode?

I haven't, I've never been to the track mind you.

I haven't tracked my car because of limp mode actually. :( Don't want to look ridiculous hitting limp mode trying to get through a 20 minute lapping session.

Hey Dan,
Nice dilemma to be in! Do they have an AG, black painted roof in stock? I might just drive my '16 up there and swap it out- I would want the U.S. sticker price for my '16 and a Canadian MSRP deal on the '17!!

While I understand about the added costs, you should seriously consider the swap. There's been no official announcement from Ford on the cooler fix and you might find the '17 has improved quality control. At least you know what to look for in the GT350!

Good Luck:thumbsup:

Hey Jim,

All GT350's that are sitting in the showroom right now are sold to customers.

What i was offered is to trade mine in and order a new '17 which would show up
sometimes in October, that's if all goes according to plan.

I'd probably be driving it only 1 month before having to store it for the winter.

If Ford would only speak up about any possible cooling fix.

How much mileage on your 350 Jim ?

I wouldn't be super worried. IF it happens quick shift to fifth and finish the session.

You can complete the event staying under 5,000(5,500?) rpm and make full power. Limp mode only limits RPM, as far as I know.

Hey Dan,

Thanks for the added details on your offer- still interesting imo.
I am up around 1,700 miles at this point. My goal is to keep it around 5,000 or less per 'season'- I will not be using it during salt season. Like you, I'm holding off on hpde pending fix...

That's incorrect. I know allll about how it behaves.

It pulls power. At WOT, you get maybe 20% power and once you hit whatever maximum RPM it'll go to at the time, it cuts back to whatever is needed to maintain speed. That RPM limit gets lower and lower too depending on how hot the transmission is. If you keep it out there for another lap, you'll find the limit get slowly and smoothly lower from 4500 to 4000 and so on.

That said, it's not so bad on track. You just demand lots of power and it's not there. At that point, you just move off-line when safe and roll out track exit. The thing is I don't pay several hundred dollars for a track day to only get half of each session. So it is annoying, but if I were doing it to see what the car could do one or two times, it'd doable.

I talked to the Ford Performance team today at the All Ford Nationals in Carlisle, PA. They have two solutions on the way.

Immediate Solution set to drop anyday. Official Transmission swap package with coolers for those who have to track their Tech or Base GT350 ASAP and price isn't an issue.

The second and more affordable solution is an external pump and cooler setup, but it won't be available until Fall.

I could tell they want to protect the GT350 image and are working hard to get some solid solutions out there. They recognize most of us didn't have a choice and only what the dealer decided to order which majority are Tech packs.
I was at Lime Rock July 22-23rd for the Continental and IMSA races. I talked to two guys from the Gannasi Ford GT team about the GT350 trans issue. The first guy turned out to be a head engineer for the Boss 302 program. He did not know anything about the Gt350 trans heating issue at first. The more I talked to him he started making statements that in fact he did know about the issue. There was no doubt that he did not want to talk to me about the problem. He did say that the Boss 302 had a problem with overheating transmissions and the problem was fixed with some type of air dam. I later ran into Chip Gannasi himself yes the owner of the race team that won Le Mans with the Ford GT. I asked him if he was interested in developing a trans cooler for the GT350. His reply was talk to Multimatic. I'm sure that most of you know that the Multimatic race team developed the Ford GT for racing and also builds and races the GT 350 RC for the Continental series. Well I talked to the as many of the Multimatic guys that I could find and no one was aware of the GT350 trans overheating problem or interested in producing a fix. Anyway Billy Johnson won the Continental Challenge race in the Multimatic GT350 RC. He had a trans cooler. My guess is that we will never see a trans cooler for the GT350 tech cars. Hope I'm wrong.

Very strange conclusion IMO considering that people have already made homemade solutions. Also, there is strong speculation that there are already part numbers in the system and a solution is imminent from FP.

Regardless, there will be a solution. Maybe not an official one, but I'm sure you will be able to find a reputable shop that can do it for you. It just may take a little bit more effort then going through Ford.
