A few people have hit upon the point that it's not all just about engine size and power. Some of us have a little button that the magic 8 knows how to press. It's about how it sounds and how it makes you feel, it's integral to the spirit of these beasts. If the GT wasn't being sold in the UK, I wouldn't be ordering one. To me the ecoboost is like alcohol free beer or quorn burgers.

I fully understand and respect why people would choose the ecoboost; you just don't have that switch in your head, or heart, wherever it is. You are the lucky ones because you can exercise at least a modicum of financial restraint.

V8 all day every day.

Cheap, large displacement engines aren't really a "thing" in the UK unless you find a used Aston Martin - but then you'll be stuck with parts costs given they're £80,000 cars brand new.

Once the new VED system came in with monthly direct debits it became a non-issue. £42 a month, unless you're seriously short on cash, is nothing, and that wont start until the second year of ownership.

I know I'm going to be landed with big fuel bills compared to a typical hatchback, but after crunching some number's its more than manageable for me.

Going to websites like Fuelly et al, people are getting around 200~250 miles from 55L litres of go-juice in the S550. Worst I've seen is 180 miles from a tank (they must've been driving rather hard).

750-ish miles a month on average. Round it to 4 tanks of fuel a month if I did end up getting 180 miles to a tank = Around £252 a month to keep me going, which is well within my budget. I think 220 miles to a full tank will be more likely, however. I hit, and often exceed, my car's "urban" MPG figures perfectly (28.2mpg), so getting the V8's urban figure of 18mpg looks more than likely.

As a Brit living in the US, I got the V8 because it's something I would never feel able to do back home due to the price of petrol, insurance, etc.

In fact, I could never see myself buying +any+ new car in the UK given the higher prices, higher income tax, lower salaries, etc.

Depends where you are in the UK. I assume you're originally from the south of the UK where, yes, owning a V8 would be financial suicide.

The wages I have would see me living a miserable life in the south - hell, I'd probably be considered "in poverty".

Yet in the North-East my wages are getting me a V8 muscle car whilst also saving for a 2-bed house with a big driveway (the most important feature, second only too the place where Bacon is prepared).

Out of about 15 orders at the dealer Ford have put me through, only mine is an EB, rest all GTs.
I'd love a GT but financially its out of the question, fuel, tax, insurance are all a bit mental. In these times of austerity i honestly dont understand how people can afford to run the V8 as a daily.

Benfield Ford Sunderland? If so then Pierre has sold 32 GTs now (including mine) and you're still the only EB at last check! You'll be the mythical turbo Unicorn of the North East. :lol:

Which means, of course, you'll have to let me drive it at some point. ;)

When you think it has more bhp than what the Supra Twin Turbo and Skyline GTR officially had back in the 90's but at the same time has the fuel economy of a small family car.

Having recently driven one around Florida for a week I averaged 38mpg! :eyebulge:My ML55 by comparison only averages about 16mpg.

Power is more important to me and Im not bothered how thirsty the V8 Mustang is, but I can appreciate the Ecoboost for those people where economy is a big factor for them.

On a side note, if the V8 Mustang didnt exist and only the Ecoboost was available I would definitely still have one. Its a sweet little engine with a lot of grunt :ford:

Wow! That's impressive, so converted to UK mpg that will be in the 40's?! That's good to know...

I'm all for the ecoboost, even if I could afford the V8 I would still go ecoboost, just fits my needs better - I sit on the motorway for 90 minutes each day, a V8 would be overkill.

I will have a V8 one day but it won't be something I drive every day I don't think. Anyone here a daily V8 driver? Do you get used to it or is it just as awesome each time?

Now, my question to you...because running a V8 over the pond is a lot more "affordable" than it is over here (I know there are more factors), for the sake of argument, lets say gas cost you double what is does now, would you still have those 8's? Maybe you do little mileage in a year in which case it's easy. But put yourself in my shoes, 15000+ miles a year & gas costing $7 per gallon. That's a lot of money gone compared with something more economical. Having said that, if fuel was half the price it is over here then I could probably justify running a V8 we can all dream I guess...

300bhp is good enough for most people. Its not enough for me personally... but its enough for most people.

Thats why im getting a V8 and not an Ecoboost.

100% even if gas cost $10 a gallon which is more then 3 times more expensive. I would still drive a V8. I can cut back on beer or guns lol.

My C7 was run over in a parking lot while I was in a store by an F350... Almost $10k in body damage and the front suspension was going to need to be replaced I decided to get rid of it. I broke even. I miss it but day to day driving is much more fun in the Mustang believe it or not....and comfortable lol

I ran a V8 Grand Marquis for the past year as a DD. Used it to commute across London. Great fun and got me used to 12mpg.

Still my long time DD, a 1998 BMW 323 only does 18 in London traffic.

What a shame we get ripped off with fuel duty (I know the tree huggers will disagree) but there are a fair amount of people who would like the V8, but can't justify the running costs. If you're unlucky enough to have that V8 craving, it must be quite frustrating. I feel your pain, but take comfort in the fact you won't feel sick every time you're sat in traffic and watching the needle fuel gauge visibly moving before your eyes.

Great point about the Mustang being a 'Pony Car' a few posts back - it makes it feel more socially acceptable to the non-petrol head community, and it is nice to see everyones reasoning over their choice of power plant. I'm sure there'll be no snobbery over it, as long as Ford don't introduce a diesel model!

He said he didn't see it...it was parked all alone. He barely spoke English and was laughing about it.

Just FYI stock I was averaging 16.2MPG. That includes DD. Spirited driving and all other driving.

After I installed my PMAS intake I'm clearly seeing this.

Yes my driving has changed....I'm punching it more lol but the MPGs keep going up!

Because what they actually want is magical unicorn farts to solve all the issues. Once Blue Crude takes off (which is will, no country wants to be chained to OPEC), they'll have no leg to stand on and maybe, just maybe, they'll finally shut up.

My original plan was to purchase the 2.3, but after seeing and hearing the 5.0 GT at one of the recent dealer viewings here in Australia, I'm now going with the GT.

Siting in the car at the viewing and looking out over the bonet I knew straight away it needs to have the V8 under it. This will be my first V8 and here in QLD I will pay almost double per year for registration, but I've always wanted a Mustang, so I'm willing to take the hit to enjoy a V8 Mutsang.
