Are you saying you could beat an auto in a drag race?
No, but the world has more than just 0-60. In and out of corners the stick is superior. The Ford Tranny won't even stay in the gear you want with the paddles. Ford should have a floor +- shifter. The paddle are useless when they won't stay in the gear you choose. Also, have you felt how long the auto stays in gear when WOT in sport mode? Horrible.

For decades I've never agreed with muscle cars being made in anything other than a V8. This goes for all makes & models, and not just Mustangs.

This my own POV and not knocking anyone's preferences.
Since I started working and got booted out of my dad's house at an early age I decided against wasting money unnecessarily. Even when I bought a silverado a few years ago I bought a v6. It could still tow 5k pounds which was way more than I'll ever tow and it got better mpg than the v8 while costing less. Of course now the v8's trucks get just as good or better than the v6 so it's a moot point. I just don't see why I would need to spend extra money in purchase price, fuel, and insurance. Probably tires too. Tires, fuel, and insurance are costs that aren't going anywhere. Every time I'm at the pump it's a good feeling knowing that I'm going to be getting some great mpg with my ecoboost. I'm already filling this thing up almost weekly with all the miles I'm putting on it. That's with me averaging mid 20's with a heavy foot. I'd absolutely get sick of gas stations if I had a gt. I likely wouldn't make it one full week without filling it up. With gas prices rising I am even happier with the ecoboost. I've averaged as much as 27 mpg with mixed driving. Easily seeing 30's on highway stints. And yeah the power is there too.
I really could see the argument for the v8 or nothing 15 years ago when the 6 was making 190 hp or something. These days the v6 and eco are making 300+ hp and with a little modding even more. They are super fast DD. I can't even imagine the situation in my daily drive where I would need 430 hp. I'm all about keeping the license and staying out of jail.

I'm at a stage in my life and career where cost plays no role in my decision. It's purely based on preference and desire. I'm also a purist when it comes to muscle cars as it relates to engine.

For me its about the heart.
The V8 could have less power than the 2.2 for all I care and I would still want it. Its about the sound and the fact that its is what it is!
I have the money and mpg are not really an issue.
The head would never buy a V8 but this is a battle I have let the heart win!

I agree the Ecoboost is more than adequate and faster than any car I have ever owned.
Same reason I loved my Grand Marquis, apart from having a strange looking car in the UK, was the V8 even though it only put out 220hp from 4.6 litres.

Good for you man. I'm glad you've been blessed in that regard. I could afford the GT but heck I'm happy with the ecoboost. When I think of purist I think of someone driving an old school ford coupe or something along those lines. I had a straight 6 65 mustang at one time. Had some 5.0 foxbody's. I like all mustangs.

That's why they also come in different colors. Everybody has their preference. If you look back, my purist comment was specific to the engine.

Ha ha, what makes me laugh reading this is a V6 would be considered over the top in the UK!

I suppose there is no point wasting money if you don't want to but I am amazed at how many of you guys in the US have bought the 2.3.

I thought that Ford only built it with the rest of the world in mind especially in Europe with everything set against you if one buys a big engined car.

With your petrol at about $2 I would be buying the biggest engine possible if I lived over there.

In the UK petrol is about $8 a gallon btw but I'm still going 5.0.

Mind you my current daily a 1998 e36 only gets 19mpg in London traffic and my departed Marquis only got 12mpg. Guess the Mustang won't be such a shock to me lol

My first visit to the States was in '92 and there was plenty of 60s and 70s metal on the road. I even hired a '72 Mustang 5.0 in LA.

Last year I was over there and disappointed to find that most people were driving cars similar to what we get over here.

That was a road trip from SF down the coast then out to Yosemite and across Death Valley to Las Vegas. LA was next then San Diego, a brief visit to Tijuana then a few days traveling back to SF to fly home.

6 of us in an Oldsmobile Cutlass. A very good time.
