I've gone for a V8 myself.

Not knocking the 2.3 but I've wanted a V8 for as long as I can remember and the fact I can now buy one from Ford is fantastic, so the whole economy/tax thing is a moot point for me; I was having the V8 whatever the cost!

That said, real world figures indicate the ecoboost should do an extra 100ish miles from a tank over the V8. For me, had I been choosing between the pair, that difference is nowhere near big enough to choose the 2.3. Even as a daily driver I'm not sure it would've been enough of a difference to sway me.

vs

no contest. Sorry eco-buyers. ;)
Isn't the top one a review of the Ford Racing Borla sports exhaust so not the stock V8 exhaust?

I did a rough calculation yesterday and worked out that over a period of 5 years the V8 would cost me £9000 more in fuel. People stating fuel & sound as the only factors aren't seeing the full picture. Insurance will likely be massively more expensive.
Servicing for the EB will likely be every 10,000 miles, i'd expect the V8 to be probably every 6,000 miles. Then there's costs, if you take servicing costs for a Focus RS as a rough guide to the EB servicing then that's around £300, i'd estimate a lift to around £450 for the V8 servicing.
VED rates at current prices over 5 years would be £3120 for the V8, £1250 for the EB . Then of course there's the £4000 price premium for the V8 & lets not forget you'll need several sets of rear tyres
Everybody has their own personal reasons, nobody is right or wrong for their engine choice. Even just taking projected fuel costs + engine cost premium + VED saving i'm around £14000 in pocket (5 year term). I've owned a late 70s Corvette & Pontiac Trans Am, i've had my V8s ... and the wife said if i want another classic as a toy then feel free :headbang:
The dealer said that the EB was 22k/2 year servicing when I asked. Can anyone else confirm?

For me, insurance was exactly the same for V8 and EB (same as what I'm paying now for the ST).

I've got a thread here with the costs (external forum), or one on here, however I can't do fancy tables here.;)

Any of u guys ordered the 5l for an every day car?

I keep having second thoughs, but might just get 2.3 modded.

Was running about 400 bhp from my mk2 Rs focus.

For me, it would be an easy decision. A Mustang is bought by the heart, not the head.....so it'd only ever be a V8 for me. It's not just the performance, it's the sound.....the music. The stock S550 is too quiet, so a MRT or Stainless Works would be one of my first mods.

That being said, just like my current '05 GT, any S550 would be a toy. Something to be enjoyed when the moment is right, like a fine wine.

I remember about 9 years ago, when a fellow Mustang owner let me sit in his S197 GT and start it up at a car show. I knew in that moment I'd be owning one.....and within 6 months I did!

It was a similar story for me many moons ago. My first car-love was the Capri. As a teenager, I could only afford to ensure the 4-cylinder, so my first one was an '87 1.6 Laser! But I still loved that car and drove it all over the country, racking up 100k miles. But I knew I really wanted a 2.8 Injection. One day, I spotted a similar looking 2.8 to my 1.6 (both were blue over silver). Once I started it up and heard that V6 rumble, I was grinning. Pulling away on the test drive, she went sideways onto the A3 and I said to my wife "I'm buying this". It was the first of several 2.8s that I owned.

I bought the S197 as it was as near to a new Capri as I could get......and I've never looked back.

So, having lived the "entry level" engine in my youth, I totally get why someone would go for the Ecoboost. We've also come a long way (baby)......my 1.6 Capri put out 89bhp......not quite the 310hp from the Ecoboost
