$65 seems a bit excessive for a thermostat. What temp does Lund recommend, and tune his tunes for? 160 or 170?

Thanks, Beef. I figured the tune wouldn't change, I just didn't know which one would be more optimal for the fans with the lund tune.

Thanks, again!

I did mine with the hose clamp method and not draining the radiator. I used a stretch type hefty garbage bag and a towel covering the accessory drive. I did not spill a drop, however I swapped the Tstat so quickly that messed the gasket up and had coolant spray everywhere. I then decided to drain the radiator and take my time fixing it to make sure the gasket seated correctly. I wish I had taken my time the first time, gasket is very important, it will leak no matter how tight the bolts are if its not seated right. Temps stay at 178-185 now.

So.... I pumped the hose :p and I'm not sure I purged all the air from the system. Any tips for completely burping the cooling system? How long do I have to pump? I can still hear coolant sloshing around

EDIT: gave it a few more pumps on an incline. No air, and consistent sub-190 temps now. Thanks all

How big of a splash pan are we talking? (eg. how much coolant)

Just to gauge how much coolant is going to be pooping out from the hose after I disconnect it.

Also is there a specific installation side (up/down)? Because I watched this one video, and the guy mentioned some cars have the factory thermostats in the wrong way.

Is the pointy end supposed to go in first, or the flat end?

You could lose up to a gallon of coolant depending on how long the swap of thermostats takes, if you're looking to not make a mess just drop the belly pan and use the petcock at the bottom of the radiator. I made a mess swapping mine and in hindsight would have dropped the belly pan. The pointed end goes in towards the motor. Standing in front of the car the pointed end should be facing to the passenger side.

Ok got it. Thanks.

So pointed end basically goes to the left (if you're standing in front of the car). Sorry, I have a RHD, steering wheel and passenger seats are opposite lol.

Now I've just gotta figure out exactly where the thermostat comes out of. Someone here kindly circled it for me in a photo a few weeks back, I'll chase it up.

I'm assuming its above the bottom hose that's below that green circle and it's either the purple circle or the yellow circle nut (within the green circle).

It comes out wheir the green circle is,the purple circle is one of the nuts that hold the tstat housing on.

easy way:

0. leave coolant cap on, do not drain system
1. remove intake tube
2. leave coolant hose on housing
3. have your understanding life partner hold the coolant hose with light pressure towards the housing while you remove the two bolts
4. prepare new thermostat for quick swap
5. politely ask understanding life partner to apply pressure away from housing, separating the housing, exposing the thermostat but keep the hose/housing opening pointed up so it doesn't drain out.
6. swap thermostats in under 1 second
7. put housing back together with bolts
8. rinse off front of engine and belts since you spilled about 1 ounce of coolant
9. put intake back on
10. remove coolant cap and let it idle and heat up (turn on heater full blast) on level ground and pump coolant hoses while it heats up. level off coolant, it won't need much at all....
