My owner's manual has probably been stuffed somewhere by my wife so I have an issue maybe someone can answer for me.

My cluster numbers and markings are gray with power off and with power on the numbers and markings light up white with the headlights off. With headlights on they change to selected my color setting. The problem I'm having is during daytime driving in low light situations like close to evening or driving through a wooded area on a cloudy day while headlights are off my white lit areas go very dim making it hard to see. Once I come out of a wooded area in a few hundred yards it gets bright again.

I guess the question is...is there a sensitivity setting for this or should they not go dim at all? I was thinking maybe they go dim to tell you it's time to get the lights on. When I set the headlights to auto setting the headlights come on at a point where I think it's not quite dark enough for them to turn on. Or, maybe I have a malfunctioning cluster or light sensor.

Not sure if this will help, but I have 2 suggestions. #1, if you go into the car settings> lighting, there should be something in there to adjust the sensitivity of the headlights coming on. If I recall correctly, the options go something like "earlier; normal; later", referring to how sensitive the sensor is in regards to turning on the headlights. #2, is the fact that the dash light brightness is on a 2 tier system. What I mean by that is the dash light brightness when the headlights are off, and when the headlights are on are 2 different settings. Next time your headlights kick on at night (or if your garage is dark enough) adjust the dimmer up and it should be able to get a little brighter. Hopefully that will solve your issue.

Going forward, keep a copy of the manual in PDF on your phone. Can't get lost PLUS searchable, unlike the paper one.

I think she found the manual. I'll see when I get home. Thanks for the suggestions

I don't see anything in the manual for adjusting sensitivity in relation to the headlights coming on.

I have a 2015 and I dont think there is a setting to adjust the auto on sensitivity. May in later models there is.

Go into the settings menu in the car's center display on the gauge cluster. Then try step #1 from my first post.

The only settings for lighting are the delayed turn off. I figured out what the problem was. I figured it had to be the sensor so my buddy looked up the ambient light sensor location and we saw a picture of it on the web. It's right on top of the dash in the very center near the windshield......RIGHT UNDER MY RADAR DETECTOR!!

Keep that in mind if you guys have radar detectors, move it over a bit.

That’ll do it.
