I am thinking about velossatech big mouths, how much of a pain is it to remove bumper and put it back on successfully? best method? I know the clips are fragile but I do know about those screws in the fender wells.

I saw this photo, do you need to take the wheels off too? recommended? etc. can it be done by myself? or do I need another set of hands to help.

Its not that hard, yes you can do it yourself. Getting the small screws in the fender is the hardest part. You can do it with the wheels on, but its a lot easier with more room and the wheels off. I believe CJ Pony parts as well as others have a step by step on youtube.

Pretty straight forward process. Wheels only need to be taken off if you want a little more access to the screw that holds the bumper. Other than that just a crap ton of screws holding the belly pan to the bumper then take off the clips to remove radiator shield then like 4 screws under and pull the corners to get the clips out and that’s all

Echoing what's already been said but considering you don't have a lift, getting under the car and removing + keeping track of all the screws that hold the belly plan in place is the worst part.

Between changing out grilles, body kits and splitters, I've done it more times than I care to admit. I had my car on a ramp when I did it the first couple of times so wheels off weren't an option but jacking it up and taking the wheels off makes the process a lot easier. I'd just set aside 2-3 hours. Maybe a few more if it's your first time.

I can rent a lift for 7 bucks an hour. so if I had this option vs doing it on jack stands or on the ground, im assuming lift=win for 20 bucks in effort

question, do you guys think I can cut the honeycombs off with the grille still on the bumper? (removed from car) I was thinking of buying a little hand saw from Lowes. should work right? lol its just plastic. id imagine this would provide a nice clean cut just sand down the edges if needed.

edit, found someone on forums. used one of these, looks easy enough! but could go a hair past the honeycombs and remove them entirely

Good luck with that coping saw ... I couldn't get it to work easily when I did it on my 2016. If I had my time back, I'd just drill a hole in the centre of each section as large as possible instead of trying to get it perfectly up to the edge ... assuming you give up on the coping saw method.

You don’t need to raise the car on a lift at all. Honestly when I removed mine I just went in with a cordless ratchet to get the bottom screws out although on a ramp it’s much easier and for the bumper screws I just turned the wheel. I also deleted the grilles I went with a router but I think if I had to do it again I’d go with a sander. Any kind of drilling or routing will require cleanup around the edges but a sander would leave it very clean. Also make sure you have all the parts you want to install at the same time so you don’t have to remove the bumper again. I went ahead and did the demon eyes in the headlights as well since I was already in there.

Getting the car in the air would certainly make it easier buys it’s not necessary as others have stated. Pulling the bumper is a simple task. I used a dremel and a few cutting discs to get the honeycombs off. You want something that’s going to make a nice clean cut because you can see it from the outside. I made a project out of removing my front bumper. With the new grills in, you could see some rubber trim that sealed up the radiator area sticking down in front of the radiator when looking at the grill. I made sure that was up and out of the way. Put the Velossa tech in, Installed a new front chin spoiler, deleted the fogs and corrected the bad gaps/fitment I had from factory. Fits like a glove now and looks even better

thanks everyone, its just my car has perfect fitment at the moment. my bumper was off once, dealership did something and I had them toss in gt grilles while at it. they charged me 45 bucks since it was already off.

but didn't know about the Velossa tech back then. oh well

I've done it way too many times that my tabs are half broken and I don't even have the screw in the fender wells anymore.

I have only like half a tab left on both sides lol. I just try to lift the bumper up and over the tabs so I don't break off what is remaining. Still a perfect fitment over that gt500 bumper i had on the car which I ended up needing quick latches for.

You can take off the belly pan with the bumper or you can take off the belly pan from the bumper. Not sure which one would be easier but I've always just done the latter.

That will work for sure, same concept and function as a Dremel.

The reason most remove the front bumper cover to remove the grille and proceed to remove the material from the backside as demo’d in many of the images in this thread (and others like it) is because there’s no way to make a mistake that is seen from the front...

Meaning if you saw, dremel, cut or belt sand the backside crooked, or accidentally scrape something next to the area you’re removing, it can’t be seen from the front at all.

If you’re going to try to cut open the grille from going in from the front of the car, without removing the bumper cover, yes it can be done - but it’s going to be tedious, it’s going to take a hell of a lot more time doing it and making it look “clean”. IMO, it’s a risk trying to do it in this manner.

If the front grille is removed, a belt sander, or sanding disk will be quickest way to level the plastic to open the honeycombs.

One word of caution with the 2015-2017 front bumper removal - there’s quite a few posts on here from others who have broken the front clips that secure the cover. There’s also “fix it” threads if those clips do break on you. Some have removed the cover with no issues, others have tried the same exact removal methods outlined and the clips still broke.

Do yourself a favor - get a tool for popping the clips. Makes it hard to actually break them. And buy extras before hand. You can buy them on amazon for cheap.
