I have cleared my transmission learns this morning because I was getting a rough jerky change between 2nd and 3rd. On a 5 mile drive today the change is now smooth but how many miles do I need to do before the relearning process is complete ?

Do yourself a favor and disable the adaptive learning.

The transmission does not feel any different apart no rough change between 2nd and 3rd in the 5 miles I have done. Maybe it hung onto the gears a little more than it used to.
I have a 200 mile run of mixed driving to do on Sunday to see my Mother who had just come out of Hospital so it will be interesting to see how it feels after that,
What advantage is there to have the learning switched off ? I thought it learnt how much pressure it needed so it doesn't slip and there was no transmission flare as well as the change points for how I drive ?

I noticed there is 'pause adaptive learning' and 'stop adaptive learning' is there a difference between the two at all? im guessing pause is the same as stop if you use it right after clearing and pause is just used if you like the particular shift strategy at the time?

The difference between Pause and Stop, is that, Pause will not update the shift tables, but use what is there already. Good when it's shifting how you like. Stop means to not use the shift table at all. I don't recommend this. The learning adjusts shift pressures and clutch wear. My experience was good with clearing the tables. It made positive improvements but not totally perfect. What really fixed it for me was the M-9306-M8B performance kit. My 10R80 now shifts so smoothly. The cost of the kit vs going to the dealer repeatedly to fix drivability issues with the 10R80, priceless.

I spoke to a Transmission rebuilder today and he said if you switch off the learns it will lead to premature failure. Short use will not be a problem but the learns allow for ware and without them on it will ware a lot quicker. He reckoned the off function was workshop use only but he had heard of people leaving it off but he reckons its good for business.
