So do you just remove the mesh insert or do you leave out the entire plastic housing?

None that I have seen. Comparing a 2022 to a 2020

On the GT just remove the carbon filter. The mach 1 remove the tube. No re-tune required.

Clearly that isnā€™t a stock GT. Is it maybe a Mach 1 or does it have an aftermarket CAI kit to start with?

welp i'll be taking a look as soon as mine shows up :)

so if this is true a cold air intake will result in actual hp gains without a tune in the 2022's cause it'll get rid of all the factory restrictions.

Ford is smart enough to know how to pass EPA regulations while making the car easy enough to undo the changes. I bet it's running the same tables as the '21 and the wideband is telling the ECU to compensate for the slight reduction in air by pulling some fuel.

There is at least one thread on this in a GT. It is a filter built into the top cover.

Mach 1, I removed the entire tube. You'll need three screwdrivers to push on the tabs all at once so it slides out. Tube and filter come out as one piece.

If a GT, please see comments on removing; it's a bit different (reads easier).
