Hey, everyone. I am looking to upgrade to some new wheels--both for aesthetics and performance. I looked at the Magnetic Wheels from AmericanMuscle, and I noticed on the webpage for the reare wheels(20x10) that AM recommended a staggered setup that goes as follows:
-FRONT = 20x8 255/35R20
-REAR = 20x10 305/35R20

My question mostly lies with whether or not a 305 tire on a 20x10 wheel is a good idea. As much as I would like the aggressive look, I was considering 295 tires for the cheaper cost and more reliable compatibility. Let me know if you guys think a 305 on 20x10 wheels is pushing the limit.

Seems like the Nitto NT555 G2 has 20x10" wheels as compatible. Now I just have to decide how expensive 305 wheels are going to be on a daily driver. lol.

Well, you what they say, if you have to ask...
Generally, I drive this thing like a grandma. However, I do participate in spirited driving from time-to-time. I've never owned a sports car until this one, so I do not really know how fast the rear tires wear on a car like this.

305/35 20 i think fits and people here use it, but it is kind of tall; see attached tire size calculator comparing to the factory 20” size. I would suggest finding a tire you like that has sizes for both wheel sizes vs just picking a tire size. There are other options which are likely cheaper if you’re mainly DD driving the car and occasionally being rowdy like any other mustang owner would be. 285/35 would also fit the rear width and likely open up tire selection.

I currently have the PP1 wheels with 275 tires on the rear; I just feel like 285 tires would be practically a lateral upgrade.

305s want an 11” wheel to get the most footprint out of them. They may fit on the 10” wheel but they won’t be the same. It does all depend on the specific tire in question as to how well they will or won’t work on a too narrow wheel.

8” in the front with a 10” rear is highly questionable. It won’t handle well with that much stagger.

My advice would be to find one of the many 10” ET35 or ET40 wheels out there and run a square setup with a 285 tire.

What does stagger have to do with handling ability?

I agree that that car won't handle all that great, but it's not because of the stagger.
Excessive stagger dials in lots of understeer at the limits of cornering, which ain't great for getting the car to dance properly. That's what I mean by handling. These front-heavy boats need as much front tire as they can get. Its not like a Porsche which is rear-heavy and is balanced properly with a big stagger.

If you're only worried about straight line rear grip, then more power to ya.

Right, so then it's not a matter of stagger, it's a matter of not enough tire on the front eg. 255 which I agree with.

The Viper ACR has 295/355 and the C7Z has 285/335, both similar staggers than the OP's option but you don't see anyone complaining those don't handle well.

Be careful of comparing what works on other model vehicles, as the suspension, weight bias and lots of other things come into play. Notice the center of gravity of both of the vehicles you listed are a lot different from the Mustang. The amount of stagger works differently on different cars.

I personally would not run a 255 front with a 305 rear on any size wheel, but that is me. If I run a 305 tire, then I want a wheel that will take advantage of that width, and then of course I would want the front tires and wheels to be a size that works well with the size in the rears.

OP you stated that you want the sizes you chose for looks and performance. If you park beside a S550 with a 275/285-20 or larger front tire on wheels that are 10" or more in width and 305/315/-20 rear tire on wheels that 11" or more rear......I think your size will lose in the looks department....stating this, as you did list looks as a priority. Plus you have to consider if you are planning to do any suspension changes.

You will thank yourself for that choice :)

I've decided to go with 19x10 w/ 285/35/19 tires on a square setup instead; I also plan on getting a 1" lowering spring set.
