I didn't realize the car had DRLs. Hopefully there's an easy way to disable that.
Newb question. What do you mean by DRL's?

Wow, why the intense hatred of the feature? Do they affect your driving experience somehow?

I just hate them. I don't like the fact that OFF doesn't mean off. There's no real rationale for it. I just hate it. I'll end up disconnecting the fuse if there's no way to disable via software (hopefully there's a separate fuse).

In a way, it ruins the look of the car in the daytime for me. Plus, I don't like that if for some reason I didn't want to be seen in the dark (), I can't be fully dark.

I also hope that I can dim the lights inside the car to nearly off at night.

I know I'm not the only one who hates DRLs!

daytime running lights. those stupid **** lights that run ALL THE TIME. If I choose OFF on my lights, I want them off.
I agree with the simple fact they're totally unnecessary and there should be a real "ON/OFF" switch because some of us really can tell when it's dark outside! :clap2: There was never a need and there never will be... it's just mommy making sure we're seen by others and that simply disgusts me to no end. I also feel that anyone and everyone should be able to make the decision for him/herself as to using those lights and yet, companies constantly seem to add crap like this which cannot easily be disabled or defeated.

That said, they can help other traffic know you're on the road... I note many vehicles on the roads w/o running lights on and they can be hard to see if you're trying to pass someone. Also, they beat the heck outta those damned 70% high beam DR lights!

The real bother from these lights will be seen when they burn out, bit by bit... and you'll have to replace them because you cannot stand to have missing lights! That's when the expense will hit you and remind you that you just don't like or need these "lifetime" LED's...

I think they look pretty good, but to each their own. My Escape has them and I rarely think about it unless I start it remotely and walk up looking... not easily missed! When I do think about it, I wish they were normal to the degree, I can turn them off or on myself. It's just saying to the customer, "Since YOU'RE SO STUPID, we'll handle this for you!"

Hey automakers... Prevent my last or even next collision... not the manual control of my light switch...

I think DRLs might be required by law these days. I live in a mountainous, forested area, and running with headlights on all the time is pretty much required in order to be seen in all the shadows. What bugs me about DRLs is that they only apply to the front lights. I would actually like them to apply to the rears as well. For this reason I end up ignoring the DRLs anyway and just turning on the headlights all the time. My 350z is 10 years old with 180000 miles, and the lights haven't burned out yet. I don't think that is going to be an issue.

Yes it's the law up here too with drl (if you don't have drls you need to have your lights on) ... We've also been forced to have the rear lights on 24/7 (it's a visibility thing see) but now the geniuses in the EU have decreed that rear lights must be OFF to save the environment?!!

Actually DRL's are mandatory in the entire EU on all newly introduced models as of 2011.

The major discussion is indeed about whether the taillights should come on with the DRL as well. This varies by country hence most manufacturers have made this a parameter setting that can be adjusted with diagnose software. In the Netherlands for example it is currently against the law to have your taillights on with DRL's. Which is utterly rediculous because it si not against the law to have normal lights on all the time.

There actually is a growing opposition against this rule becauste statistics have proven that automatic DRL's actually have a negative influence on people's awareness to switch on their normal lights in situations with limited visibility. Personally I think it's only a matter of time before taillights always on are manatory as well. I read somewhere once that in NL it will be mandatory for all new cars introduced in 2015 and later, but I'm not sure if this is local or EU policy.

Reminds me a bit of the 3rd brake lamp law of 1993. Until december 31 1992 3rd brake lights were forbidden here, as of january 1993 they all of a sudden became mandatory.

I think there will be a switch to turn them off. My Genesis coupe had a switch to turn all lights off. Law that requires DRLs also provide an override switch for them. So I believe you should be fine here.

I think they are the coolest DRL's ever seen
Totally agreed! They make car look more mean. :headbang:

nope.

lots of us don't live in mountains, why force it?
I have to agree with you here. My mom owned a Jeep that had a setting for DRL.... AND an off option... I don't understand why that option has faded out. If you ask me there should be 5 settings Automatic, Off, Fog, DRL, On... But what do I know. I'm just a customer. I'm not a company making billions of dollars and only acting like I care about my customers
