Magnaflow Competition cat.back he drives me crazy

I installed the cat-back competition this morning and the drone is absolutely unbearable.
Between 1600 and 2100 rpm is an absolute madness.
I do not understand how a company like [MENTION=13048]MagnaFlow[/MENTION] Puts on sale such a product, without at least giving a warning to customers.
To see if they can offer me some solution, if not 1200€ to the trash

Across every generation of Mustang, the competition series (aka magnapack muffler) drones like crazy. They're notorious for it. On the other hand, I've heard the streets are too mild. If you want a moderately aggressive exhaust without drone, best bet is contact customer service about a possible return, or sell to recomp as much of the cost as possible.

As a suggested replacement, Krona offers a very deep, rasp-free sound without drone. Volume can be controlled by throttle input, and it's loud at WOT. Krona also has beautiful polished 4.5" tips that fill the cutouts. Plus it was very easy to install and align, because it doesn't use slip joints like every other exhaust system.

Go to an exhaust shop and have the stock resonator welded back on if you can't return it.

They will burn in and settle down by 1k miles but unfortunately you having a auto and higher gearing you'll always be in the drone zone. My car with 6spd n 3:73 there is barely any drone at all. If I was you I'd go with a different set-up.

I had the competition axleback with stock resonator and the drone was terrible. Ended up selling it and dont regret being rid of it at all!

ya that definitely sucks. best bet is probably going to sell it on the forums for 800-900 and just move on. if they even consider returning it, there is probably a restocking fee and only store credit..blah blah blah. hope you find something better!

I should have read more in the forums before buying, but here, in Europe, we have fewer options than in USA.

Have you personally seen this option?. There are people in the forum who say that they have done well with the stock resonator and others have gone very badly.

Well I've got the Competition axle-back and if you weld in the stock resonator that's what you'll essentially have.

I've got absolutely no drone at all so something's not making sense with Sprint66's comments (who also has a PP with 3.73's) except perhaps a leak somewhere or the tips were too recessed and it was droning off the bumper??

By the way, check that the tips are past the edge of the bumper.

If I were you, I'd see if you can exchange for the Comp axle-back but I doubt they'll take it back if it's already been installed.

Had a Maggy comp catback on my 2011 5.0 and for the 1st couple k miles I had the same issue. It's gonna need to burn in a little and it will settle down. Won't go away 100% but it'll get much better than it is now.

I've had the comp catback for about the life of the car(almost 30,000 miles now)
Can't get around the drone unless you either:
A. Don't cruise at said RPM(drag out 5th or drive a little bit faster)
B. Find the correct length J pipes to be welded into the exhaust
C. Start messing around with random resonators hoping for the best

I chose option A.
The exhaust sounds great other than the drone in 6th.

I once attested to my Gibson catback at having no drone (which was incorrect) but its because I wasn't paying close attention to it. But as some found it does drone pretty bad and at certain times - but I've learned just to not stay in that RPM range very much. I use the paddle shifters with my auto and it forced me to rev out the engine a lot more and I'm glad I did because the car comes alive more.

I try to stay above 2200RPM and sometimes live in the 3000-4000RPM range and overall it just feels more fun. Before the exhaust I would drive more economically and as such would shift in 5th at lot around 50mph. Now I stay in 4th usually up to 60mph and then I stay in 5th on the highway. I never even use 6th gear because it lugs the engine too much.

I have the magnaflow comp catback and its a piece of crap.Not even 6k miles on the car and that piece of crap stamp steel xpipe done blew apart at the seems,always had drone,never burned in or went away.I wont buy or promote magnaflow again.

I enjoy the fuel savings of having an OD gear. Theres no reason you should have to drive abnormally (not using 6th gear, avoiding certain rpms, etc.). These cars arent five speed foxbodies with loud flowmasters. You can have a deep, aggressive exhaust note without having to deal with drone.
