Had to bring my baby into the shop this morning. Started making a mechanical whirring sound in 1st and R at low speeds. Also had a mechanical groan start yesterday when in neutral with the clutch out, clutch in the noise disappeared.

The tech who rode with me to check it out thought it was 'Not good', I'm in agreement.

Haven't heard back, we'll see what they say. I've babied the hell out of this thing, never used LC or LL, currently at ~2800 miles, bought in late Sept.

I'll update when I hear back, hopefully this isn't a common problem but I'm a sad panda right now.

Edit - here's a short video, kinda hard to hear but it's the rhythmic whirring sound.

Low speed whirr

Possible I suppose, I have a short video, let me see if I can get it posted.

I don't have much experience with things failing on my manuals, this is my 10th, never even had to replace a clutch.

Just got the call, my service adviser says the bearings in the transmission need to be replaced, she could not tell me what specific bearings, only that there was a problem with more than one.

Current estimate for getting the car back is a week from now.

Oy...

Wonder what caused it. Low fluid?

Asked that too, she just said it was a manufacturing defect not anything I could have prevented.

I guess I won't know the full story until I get the work order back, hopefully it'll be right as rain. Trying to keep my nightmares at bay for now; want to give them a chance at least.

Perhaps these gremlins were there from the get-go, this is by far the noisiest drivetrain I've ever owned. I had chalked most of it up to the PP differences.

Just left another voicemail for my Service Advisor asking for more information on these bearings and what exactly they are doing.

I am unable to see that any MT82 bearings are available to order from Ford and I find it highly likely that other parts of the transmission are either damaged or have experienced premature wear so I would like the transmission replaced rather than rebuilt. Rebuilt tranny @2800 miles just doesn't sit right with me.

Also asking if they can fix the headlight switch rattle under SSM 4S189.

Good luck with your car, OP!

What is SSM 4S189? I also have rattle everywhere! It is getting worse.

It started with the headlight switch though. Initially I suspected after market cat-back, but it also does it under neutral.

I believe that is the Service Bulletin Number for the headlight rattle fix, as referenced here:

http://www.mustang6g.com/forums/showthread.php?t=36286

Just spoke to my SA, turns out they haven't actually disassembled the transmission and thus do not actually know what the problem is. The tech 'thought' it was a bearing issue by the sound. I was led to believe otherwise on Thursday afternoon when they called me.

There may be other wear/damage but they won't know until they get into it at which point a decision will be made on replace/rebuild.

So it looks like Friday ETA isn't going to happen.

Typically they'll waste days if not weeks going back and forth with Ford trying to determine what the hell is wrong and in the end they give you a new transmission. Something that could have been done earlier on and saved you all that time without your car.:frusty:

Just spoke to the dealer, the input shaft bearing was bad, they are going to replace all of the bearings just to be safe and I should have it by the end of the week.

They said everything else looks good.

I'd like to believe that's that and everything will be peachy but part of me isn't feeling it.

I'm going to reach out to Deysha to see if she can give me some more info.

Thanks for the PM, Ayabe. Also, will you please PM me with your dealer, mileage, full name, and best daytime number? I’m happy to get this documented for you as well. Keep in mind I’m not a tech or an engineer, and can’t input on concerns/repairs. I’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

Deysha
