Not sure if this has been posted or not, but thanks to the member who posted this on Camaro6...we can all take a gander at this before it hits the webpages.

http://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=427279

My thoughts:

This H2H kind of sucks because there is no track time with Randy or any other numbers besides the ones we already know. Also, they didn't put up relative "builds". A base 1SS (not 100% sure what option(s) were added) vs a loaded Premium PP.

As a rule of thumb for performance comparisons...(which is hard sometimes because the manufacturers send what they send)...
you want the best performing version of the car with the least frills.

The 1SS with MRC and NPP would have been the best choice for the Camaro and the base GT w/PP and Recaro would have been the best choice for the Mustang.

Nit-picking aside, it seems like nothing new was really unearthed in this comparison between the two.

It pretty much verifies what was already known. A stock SS Camaro SS will outperform a stock 2016 Mustang. Congrats to GM for setting the bar higher. I still don't think the plastic/sheet metal they wrapped the car in is all that spectacular and would never buy one.

Yeah, a bit of an uninformative read...

I like the new Camaro...but I'm not sure I'll actually like driving one. I didn't mind the 5th gen...it was a good drive, but I liked the space, ergos and comfort better in my Mustang (2013 GT/CS). The reduced visibility in the Camaro (bunker feeling) isn't my cup of tea, either...and it sounds like they didn't do much to remedy the problem.

Yeah I think honesty the best performer for the SS is going to be 1SS-MRC, NPP, and the Auto.

I do know that anyone cross shopping them that cares less about performance and more about a cool fun daily will HATE that the trunk got smaller on the 6th gen. I know its a sports car but damn I like road trips and a nice system. That trunk makes me choose.

It just seems so bizarre to have these gigantic cars and you can only comfortably seat 2 and there's no trunk space in a camaro.

Where does all the space go? I have a 1997 BMW E39 and it has a massive trunk, subs in trunk, seats 4 comfortably, and has a V8. It's also smaller footprint than either the Camaro or Mustang. I don't get it.

mustang/camaro have a giant hood compared to an E39 which contributes to its length. Crash test requirements are higher, need more bulk. With all the new regs you cant make older cars like that anymore

Can't wait for these to hit the road, not a fan of the appearance but love the performance.

Curious why the H2H had a 1ss vs a loaded premium? Hard to find any tests of a base GT. Everything is always the loaded bloated model.

OK, some for the hood. How much? Why do they need such a large hood or engine bay? Is the Coyote that much bigger? Do you they feel obligated to leave a lot of room in the engine bay for mods? I mean you can s/c an S62 E39 engine just fine, so if there is room in the E39 why so much Hood in the mustang?

Crash requirements add maybe an inch of thickness all around at most no? Maybe someone can find where the space went!!

That's what Ford sent :headbonk:

Jesus.....1.5 seconds faster to 100. That's an eternity. Ford better answer back in 17.
Even if I tune my 15 it won't run with a stock Camaro. I know I won't mess with them at a light

The Track Event at Laguna Seca was removed. This is the first Head 2 Head that started out with no Track Event.

It does kinda blow it's a FL GTPP Premium but all of them have been FL GTPP Premiums.

MT still trying to convince people it's an ATS platform...

...it also looks like they went with the CTS's 19 gallon fuel tank vs. the ATS's 16.

Also, the Base Price of a Mustang GT is $33,200, not $35,700...

The car is a GTPP Premium, it's base price is $39,995 I think... They are all f&cked up...

I still have my 2001 Honda Prelude on my property (pending sale), so it's interesting to compare that, and usable interior room with my 1LE.

The Camaro "looks" like a much larger car, but get out a ruler, and the size differences aren't as big as you'd think: the Prelude is 178" long, and 69" wide, compared to the Camaro at 192" long and 77" wide.

The Prelude gets away with a significantly smaller engine bay, being a transverse 4, and a shallower, smaller trunk. Despite all that (plus a shallower dash), the rear seats are even more unusable in that car than the Camaros.

I was thinking they would love the Camaro and strongly disparage the Mustang, but they were surprisingly positive toward the Mustang as well, even saying that the cars were pretty close and that opinion on ergonomics, styling, etc. could easily sway a person one way or the other. That gave me the impression that the cars were closer than I expected given the performance difference.

In any event, as others have said, no real surprises. The Camaro is a faster, better handling car, just as we pretty much could guess based on what the LT1 was putting out since the debut of the C7 and based on the results of the 1LE VS. GT/PP test back when the Mustang first came out.

It will be interesting to see how Ford responds. I'm sure they'll have some small engine power increases, as well as a more track oriented suspension package (hoepfully with better damping).
