I had my car towed home using a tow company via AAA and when I looked at the car this morning it appears that the winched it too tight and it tore into the frame about .5" on both sides in the front. Has anyone experienced this sort of damage before and what did they do to repair it? Any help you guys have to offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken

It tore into the frame a half an inch? Holy shit! How hard were they yanking on it? Are you talking a half inch long?

I would make a claim with the tow company and have a reputable body shop check it out.

Most likely it will not harm anything but why should you have that on your car?

I imagine it is a lengthy process. You need to prove that they did more damage than just the cosmetic tearing/ripping of the underside of the car. You could reach out to a body shop/chassis shop and have them check and see if things are out of whack. If things are out of whack, towing companies have insurance for this very thing.

Good luck!

I will get pictures of the damage tonight. It was towed due to a failed half shaft.

this is one of the reasons im stressing out over not having a spare for my GTPP. since the car is so new, and that there are no tow hooks like on most european vehicles, i'm afraid the tow truck driver won't have solid experience in towing an S550

It was on a flat bed and he had the front attached to the winch and the rear chained to the bed. I think he winched it after it got tight and something had to give. I don't think it would have tore if it were winched properly. The driver was very cautious because he did not want the car to fall off the truck.

i see, so he chained the rear, then tightened it up more with the winch up front to secure the vehicle. i would think the chassis would be able to sustain a little bit more force before getting damaged.

from the several times ive had my bimmers towed, the flatbed operator would always do that as well.

who ever towed your car is an idiot flat out i work for my dads towing company on the weekends even with out a tow hook there is no reason this should happen more than likely he over tightened the winch once your car was on the bed call your roadside and file a complaint they will tell you how to handle it ive seen newer drivers do this type of shit all the time

Do you know what they did to resolve the issue. It is hard to fix a torn frame but then again I can't see them totaling the car over something so minor.

Your car does not have a Frame!

It's a unibody with sheet metal parts that are welded together to form a uni-structure. Stretching holes in side members or bending subframes is common during improper tow using chains and hooks.

Depending on what piece it is it can be drilled out, removed and replaced easily. I STRONGLY recommend filing a claim with your insurance company so you can be sure the repairs are done correctly per Fords specifications and let them subrogate against the tow company.

I will need to see pics to give you more detail but I am an expert in this field and would be happy to help.

Oh and a proper tow would be with straps over the tires No Chains....
