I got to drive the new Shelby GT350 recently. No I do not work for Ford in any capacity, but let's just say someone did me a big favor. I've been lurking for a long time following the excitement for this car and wanted to let you guys know because it is an amazing product.
A few interesting things on interior:
The vehicle steering wheel has new buttons where SYNC would appear on a 2015. One button to adjust the steering feel (Normal, Comfort, Sport) and suspension (Magnaride, Normal, Race). It also had a mode button which adjusts exhaust and throttle response for Normal, Sport, Wet, Race and Drag Strip.
On the dash ahead of the gauges it changes color from amber green and red based off of RPM.
The car had dedicated Launch control button as well.
Driving:
I was able to run it all the way up through first & second gear and stopped at about 100 MPH on my acceleration runs. It was a track pack GT350.
The vehicle is extremely fast yet predictable at the limit. We spent a lot of time with it, put a few hundred miles on it. Even in Race mode from a 5-10 MPH roll and 75% initial throttle application progressing toward WOT the vehicle pulls true and straight with little to no wheelspin.
The car is extremely loud in race mode. Exhaust burbles and pops at upshift and downshifts. The vehicle also has a LED Shift light in the same place that other Ford model vehicles put the collision mitigation warning.
Now the part everyone wants to know: the car revs to 8250 RPM and makes 550 hp. I don't have exact weight but I know it has about 200 pounds of weight taken out of it compared to a "standard" Mustang GT. However I do not know what "standard" GT they are comparing it to i.e. performance pack, base, 400A automatic etc.
It will be built on a niche line at flat rock assembly. The vehicle will not be able to be duplicated or "cloned" without substantial investment. Also Ford will likely not allow the sale of GT350 Parts without a GT350 VIN.
I have pics and video but won't be posting it for good reason.
