Looking to get tuned basically, debating on whether or not to wait for the Ford Racing tuner/tune/CAI combo (according to the aftermarket parts dude at my dealership yesterday, April is when they should be shipping...) or, snagging one of the other big 3. I've read positive things on all of them, but Ford Racing seems a slightly "safer" choice in regards to warranty issues.

I don't drag.

I like twisties.

It's my DD.

I plan to leave it NA forever.

Like a few, I've got the Corsa Extreme "on the way", and figured the front of its lungs were the next step.

What do, fellas?

I'm waiting for the Ford racing tuner. Are they coming out with a Ford racing cai also? I figure Ford knows this motor better than anyone and can provide a tune to increase power while keeping the motor on the safe side.

Yes. The CAI is going to be produced by K&N according to the Ford Aftermarket rep I spoke to yesterday, for whatever that's worth. Lol.

The Ford setup is likely going to be on the very conservative side of a tune even with a CAI.

In the past they've only been rated at about 15hp (on 93) vs 25-35hp with a traditional CAI/tune. Bama produced 34hp with a tune (93) and JLT CAI. https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=595207640605676

Also realize that everyone assume because it says Ford if its on the car you're covered. Not so. Per Ford Racing's website you MUST have Ford Racing parts installed by the dealership to have a warranty.

So on top of $400 for 15hp, you're going to pay the dealership another $100-200 for the (inflated) install/flash the tune, if not more for something you can do in the driveway with a socket set in under 20 min. The odds of a tune causing a problem with engine are astronomical. I've never heard it happen. I would go traditional tune and CAI, even if they are $700-750. It's worth the 30-35hp, almost another 10% on top of stock.

I understand the installation issue, which isn't a giant decider one way or the other.

As I said, just part of my list of considerations.

People having failures because of tunes, regardless of the tuner/shop, are definitely something I'd like to hear about if there are any to speak of though. :)

I've been a Mustang owner for a long time and never heard of an aftermarket tune blowing up an engine or causing damage. They're used on very very high HP builds just fine; they're 99.9999% safe on a stock engine. I ran Bama/JLT on my last Mustang daily driver for 50,000 miles and zero issues.

This is the primary reason I jumped ship from turbo Subarus. My buddy has a 2011 S197 and had done all kinds of stupid things to his stock block that I would have never dreamed of doing to my two Subarus without building the bottom end. As long as you are not tuned on the ragged edge of what the Coyote can do with cast pistons and aren't keeping the accelerator mashed to the floor every chance you get, an aftermarket tune is relatively safe.

Yup the stock internals are good to something stupid like 650 RWHP or a bit more. People are slapping superchargers on their stock engines with no problems.

Any word on the status of the Ford Racing tune? It seems to be taking forever!

The FRPP tunes for the 2014 GT produced great gains in the curve, something like 60 ft lbs of torque low in the rpm range. Also it increases throttle response (good for base model folks without the toggles like me) and engine braking. I think paired with a CAI from them as well, the s550 gains will be pretty good.
