Top Speed Stock GT 1/2 Mile

I signed up for this 1/2 mile speed event held on an air strip. 1/2 mile, A to B as fast as you can go. A few people asked me how fast my car will go. I guessed maybe 135-140MPH but I have nothing to back that up. My car is a (mostly) stock 17, PP - manual. Obviously there are factors - weather, my ability to launch without spinning, weight (full tank vs. later in the day when I am more empty), wind, etc. but in general what do you think I'll run? Stock they were running around 130MPH (132 and change), Tune they were running around 135. Obviously there are a bunch of additional factors, but I would say you will prob see similar results.

This sounds like it would be fun! Wish the had it near Chicago.
I would guess a non-pp with 3.31 gears may actually be faster in this scenario because of less weight and longer gears

I too would like to try a 1/2 mile. It seems ironic these cars stock can run a 1/4 mile at 110 mph but only 130+ over the second 1/4 mile. I would have hoped they were closer to the 150 mark.

I had a few neighbors ask me if I've ever considered doing the Texas mile. I kind of want to. The amount of power these cars dish out now is crazy. I remember when a 90's viper was 450 hp and that was high for that time period.

Consider this, 1/8 MPH for these cars is around 85 mph, so the only gain around 20-25 mph in the last 1/8...it takes a lot of power to continue to accelerate when at speed.

Over 130 MPH in 1/2 mile is pretty impressive to me

I did 135mph at the 1/2 mile marker in my tune-only(at the time) 2011 w/3.73's when running the Texas Mile . For 1/2 mile the shorter gears would be a benefit, for the full mile they definitely hindered my top speed as I hit the rev limiter at about the 3/4 mile marker. Shifting into 6th slowed me down.

I think 135 - 140 depending on factors. They hold this event a few times throughout the year here in AZ. I have not done it in Mustang but have in a Porsche 911 Turbo S and GT3, both were consistent at 165 - 170. Last time I was there, there was a 17 GT PP and if I recall he was right around what I said, I think his was stock.
