I couldn't just accept that the smoking was normal, that it something I was gonna have to just deal with, anyhow knock on wood ive been smoke free since Friday :eyebulge: im keeping my fingers crossed that this has taken care of it:confused:
Yeah, I was not going to deal with it... which is why my car is at the dealership.

Probably a good thing too, because apparently my smoke did not jive with everyone elses.

I haven't heard from my buddy in a few days, but last I heard he was pulling the head off as he is fairly certain my smoke is originating there.

Still no smoke for those wondering. I'm going to throw the next bolt in either today or tomorrow. If I can double the flow that I have now and still not have smoke I'll be happy. Bolt pricing is going to be 30-35 dollars (shipped) I imagine. Its time consuming and you go through drill bits very fast. I will supply new crush washers as well.

So how much pressure is actually going through the stock banjo bolt? How much oil pressure is actually needed or how much psi is safe to not starve the journal bearings? I'm just a little hesitant not knowing.. anyhow I'm still running the stock bolt but messed with the pcv & have been smoke free have ran it normal &a little hard & no smoke. If actual specs can shown as far as the lubrication I may do both

What did you do to the PCV system? Curious to know.

I won't ever have a means to quantify this. And with the stock bolt, based on the volume it LOOKS like it can move, I'd put money on the pressure being limited by the return line. I have looked at a handful of stock and aftermarket banjo bolts and all have had openings much smaller than our stock bolt.

Not to rain on your parade but from what I've read on the Mazda boards this isn't always a permanent solution. On the other hand, it's inexpensive and it does work for some people. I still think the PCV system needs to be improved (but not sure if it'll help after the car has already started smoking).

Either way, I wish you the best of luck! And it's nice to see someone working on different solutions.

I'm well aware of what goes on in the mazdaspeed world. I owned a mazdaspeed3 for 4 years. Ran a restrictor bolt, rotella, oil catch can in constant vacuum and never had an issue. I did all this before my seals went though... So its true this may not be a standalone fix. But its a start. At any rate, I haven't seen a single case that an oil catch can or pcv plate (perm) resolved a heavy smoking issue on that platform. By itself at least. I should add I would have an occ on already if it weren't for the methanol setup sitting in my garage... Lol

Everything keeps going to excessive pressure keeping the oil from fully or should I say drain back fast enough, so the initial thing I was gonna try was the pcv plate that has a double vent but $180 didn't sit to good with me if it wasn't gonna work. So since I have UPR CC I basically gutted the pcv to turn it to a true vent since I did that the smoke is gone. I've ran it like I normally do & even let it idle longer than normal & no smoke..I did the mod on Thursday here at work & no smoke yet.

Makes sense, how hard was it to get to and were you able to reuse the stock gasket?

Also if you pull your dipstick or oil cap while the car is idling can you still feel air blowing out?

I think I may gut mine and possibly talk to UPR about an oil cap breather to tie into the CC if there is still air blowing out at idle.

I didn't pull the plate off I racked the car up pulled the lock ring off & pulled the pcv out & used a carbide bit to open up the valve to be able to remove internals. Once I did that I reinstalled the valve. I may still do the bolt just as an extra precaution but not knowing how much psi is safe I'm gonna hold off till then

Update on my car...

My tech buddy has been going back and forth with Ford. They are aware of the smoking issue on the Ecoboost and are not authorizing repairs at this point until they have a proper solve for the issue. So I get my car back, smoke and all.

So that makes me a bit happier knowing they at least acknowledge the issue and are working on it.

At least my paper trail has started...

To you guys that have bumped your idle up... what did you bump it to?

I'm having Rotella T6 put in before I pick it up, and I will bump my idle once I get it home.
