How many speeding tickets have you gotten? Were the officers aggressive or being rude?

You know your're being profiled driving a car like a Mustang, it's all part of the "experience." I use to keep a log of the numerous traffic stops I got during my youth driving a modified Trans Am set up for autocrossing. (Non of the tickets, speeding or otherwise, held up in court.) Now that I'm a senior, I'm still waiting for my first traffic stop for driving my Mach 1 "noise maker." Metro Detroit promotes the anual Dream Cruise yet residents living along Woodward Ave., one of the busisest roads in America, don't like the noise and want to give the police more power for subjective traffic stops.

Interesting. The way this reads, it will be unenforceable. Unless the law has a measureable (decibel) limit, "obvious' and "unlawful" have no meaning and become un-provable opinion. It's not possible to decide when "the problem is fixed" either, unless any aftermarket mods are deemed to be illegal, and I doubt that will happen. Our legislators in the Great State of Michigan may be attempting a veiled elimination of vehicle noise laws, which is OK by me!

I've been driving since 1971. During that time I've had several speeding tickets. My memory is not good enough to put an actual number to them. My last one was about 5 years ago in the Mustang. It made it into Georgia's "Super Speeder" territory so it was an expensive ticket and did indeed piss off the insurance company. It made enough of an impression that I've slowed down considerably and now use cruise control to avoid inadvertently going fast enough to attract attention.

I've only been pulled over once in three and a half years since I've had my car. The cop was in an undercover GT. He was a dickhead right away. Told him I had a firearm on me, asked me where it was, told him it was at 5 o'clock, had me get out, un-holstered my gun, cleared it, then put it back on my dash. He then asked me why I was driving like I was(I passed a car on a zipper merge instead of slamming on my brakes to merge behind them. I got up to 45-50 in a 35.) I told him I didn't have any reason. He didn't like that, and told me he could write me a ticket for reckless driving. Ended up with a failure to use a turn signal ticket. That particular cop is always lurking around my neighborhood. I've heard stories from neighbors about him.

It's been too long since and I hope mentioning that doesn't invoke karma. If I got speeding tickets: several is my answer. The last time: there's 2 possibilites: may have been in a company vehicle, but in my car: probably test driving my '72 Mustang after doing a tune up years ago. I don't remember the state trooper being a jerk as he told me what speed I was doing (75 in a 50 or something like that)and wrote me up. I had to go to court with that one because I had other tickets on my record for illegal exhaust (running open headers), running stop signs and probably speeding within 6 months. I remember the judge asking if I liked getting tickets, then fined me and included a warning not to return to his courtroom again.

Last ticket for speeding was the in 93. I was an idiot 16 year old. Deserved it. Insurance went up enough that I didn’t drive for a while.

If you don’t want tickets, don’t do things to get them. Drive close to the limit (especially in towns and school zones), and keep it to 10 over or below unless you are sure there’s no cop or someone else is driving like an asshat far enough in front of you for them to draw attention. If you do see lights immediately signal and pull as far off as possible, turn on interior lights at night, window down and hands on the wheel. Be respectful. That officer needs to feel comfortable with you to exercise their discretion in what/if to cite you with.

tickets are just taxes if you learn how to get rid of them. I've been stopped literally dozens of times but have only paid one ticket in my life. i was young and i regret it because i didn't actually do anything wrong.

so, i don't fight them i get rid of moving violations because .

Option 1: defensive driving (normal every 12 months or whatever)
Option 2: discretionary defensive driving (same thing but discretion of the court)
Option 3: deferred adjudication (basically double or nothing, be good for X time and the ticket goes away)
Option 4: lawyers

don't just pay tickets. do take care of them promptly but never pay unless you have to.

3 in mustangs. None of which hit my insurance. Never just pay a ticket. Fight every one. It’s usually a simple deferral and move on. There’s a small extra fee for that. One was a state cop who loved to yell and ask questions just to scream over me as soon as I attempted to respond. The worst I got was in Ohio. 5 hour road trip, I’m on cruise control at 64 in a 60. Not passing anyone, just going forward. County cop pulls me over and claims I was going 80…I used off the record for that one. It was nothing but extortion he had zero proof. Lawyer claimed o could fight it to nothing, but they’d likely side with the cops and I’d have to pay for the court fees plus the fine. Or he can try to talk it down. They agreed on what the lawyer called “some made up thing called faulty muffler.” Literally his words. Straight up extortion bc he saw a bright red sports car with out of state plates. That full fee was something like $630. And I don’t even have mufflers or live in the state of Ohio. Shout out to the morons working Cuyahoga County sheriffs office.

my insurance has never been effected. Last real ticket was almost 10 years ago before I knew to fight them.

Lifetime? Not many really.
The last one was right after I bought my new 2018. He caught me on radar doing 94 getting on the highway.
I was pulling over before he even got on the road to catch me and had the windows down with the motor off before he parked behind me.
He thanked me for not stretching it out and wrote the ticket for 80.

oh man... lifetime since driving in '84, probably a dozen to 15, 3 different suspensions for points and 2 trips to jail for driving while suspended. got out of one since they had no record of sending me the certified letter and second one, they charged me with the wrong offense and owed me money when I went to court from bail :) 1 blocking an intersection ticket in boise one night on the "cruise". fought it and won. I gave a great defense, judge agreed with me and boy were the cop and prosecutor pissed :) I was 20 and flat in the middle of the intersection.

as I have aged, 1 speeding in idaho in my evo in '04, 1 seatbelt in wisconsin in '13 and 1 speeding, on my birthday no less, in vegas in '18 reduced to a parking ticket for $25 from a local lawyer. 1 misdemeanor for passengers riding on my surf platform at lake mead in '19.

Lifetime at least 40+ actual tickets. All of them a long time ago! LOL I NEVER paid them! Always got them reduced to nonmoving other than the CNI's. When I was in the Army at 21 years old I had gotten like 20 tickets in the 5 months that I had an '01 R6. 3 of those where CnI's( careless and imprudent) in NC. Lost my license for a year for 96 in a 70 at South of the Boarder on I95 headed to Myrtle Beach. He had clocked me at 144 but he was a really cool cop!! Since growing up I have only been pulled over once in the last 15+ years and it was last year for 56 in a 40 here in town. He let me off as I just told him that he caught me being a dumbass! Not having been pulled over in over a decade he had no record of me and told me to chill. I've only ever had cops come at me with an attitude(when I didn't deserve it) a couple of times.

Use your blinker, pull over /quickly/ on wide shoulder or get off the main road. Hands in view and window rolled down. Then wait for them to tell you what they want.
this, times eleventy…took me more years than I care admit, to learn this 😉👍🏼

One guy thought I was gonna run and going very high speed. I of course pulled over immediately not even a block, but he was already out of breath and heart racing. I was going to rent the movie Ronin which has best car chase scene ever. I took the ticket and shoulda fought it because he didnt even have radar, although pretty sure I was 10 over.

Another highway patrol lady in a small town was gonna give me a warning for no front plate IF I had never had a warning before or would give me a ticket if I had previously been warned. I bluffed and said I didnt remember getting an (official) warning, she called it and looked it up in her database but I won, no records.

Got let off with a warning after fishtailing out of a corner right in front of the cop with a date in a yellow turbocharged miata. But I pulled over immediately as soon as I knew he was turning around and gave him plenty of space in a fast food parking lot, so I got off, and my date was pissed I got out of that so easily. His only words- “You know what you did”, yes sir!

Warning for speeding but I was pulling over before he finished turning around (shoulder was ending soon so I made a quick call) and he said he told his rookie trainee “thats how you get off with just a warning”. Noted.

Many speeding tickets where I didnt get off. Worst was running a orange light, while accelerating, technically speeding, and somehow didnt have my insurance in the car and with an out of date inspection, leaving the bar district too, and I was a jerk to the cop. He was patient and let me off with only the minimum which I deserved. I think I was asking for worse that night. Wont do that again.

In the turbo miata, divebombing the twisties and she catches me right after I’m pretty sure I blew through a very dark orange light. Lady motorcycle cop with a thick Midwest accent (in TX). “Boy, you were really flying back there.” (To myself, yes, yes I was). No mention of the stoplight.

My last speeding ticket was a few years ago doing 75 or 80 in a 65 but apparently was a construction zone with a lowered limit. Must have missed the signage because there weren't any signs of construction. They wrote me up without the construction zone modifier. Fortunately it was out of state and never hit my record so insurance never found out.

That was in a Subaru Forester. I've yet to get one in my Mustang, though lately I've been working pretty hard at it.
