What’s the difference between halt and stop?
My guess is that:

If the car learn some miles and you feel comfortable with that behaviour, you halt for not letting to continue learning and stays as is until you press resume to continue learning.
If you press Stop, I think it clears all the data and disable any king of learning. What I don´t now is how to enable it, selecting resume the same as halt, or pushing again stop to make the inverse funtion.

My driving patterns have been fairly consistent over the upcoming 10 years with my car. Mostly highway driving, and the ever so rare high speed/hard driving.

If the transmission was learning properly, it wouldn't have come down to this. Just to entertain you, I re-enabled the adaptive pattern, and the harshness slowly re-appeared over the 14-15 months I kept it enabled. So amount of transmission fluid/diff swapped changed that. Disabling it once again, it has been smooth, and stayed smooth for the past half-year.

As long as you maintain and care for your transmission, the 6R80 cannot wear at a rate capable of requiring such adaptations to begin with. It is a proven, good transmission.
