Protecting a street parked car.

As a guy who street parks my Mustang as well, I feel for you...

Ive had my issues, I pretty much solved them by parking strategically...

The vast majority of problems I had were people backing into me.... Two front ends got damaged pretty badly... People just dont care... even with backup cameras it seems...
After putting my Mach1 front end on, I simply started parking in spots where the was no spot in front of me.... on the corner, on the end of the median...etc. By removing the opportunity for people to back into my front end, the problem went away.

It is strange to me that youre getting sideswiped... I live in Long Beach, NY... this time of year, where my car is parked in LITERALLY the busiest part of town... its "Times Square" busy... in 8 summers, ive never gotten sideswiped... and the streets arent particularly wide...

Makes me think those people pulling out of the driveways are hitting you.... No proof, but my experience has taught me that most of that nonsense happens when people are backing up... Dont underestimate peoples shitty driving, and dont underestimate the stupidity, entitlement, and carelessness of your neighbors....
(*Im pretty sure it was my neighbors backing into me as well, and not the out-of-town beachgoers)

My advice; remove those cars backing out of the driveways from the equation....

Parking in the driveway is MUCH cheaper, and wastes FAR less time, than getting your Mustang repaired repeatedly.

The time and relatively insignificant inconvience of the driveway vehicle shuffle is MUCH shorter than the time you spend witout your Mustang because it's in the shop - again.

When your car has been whacked MULTIPLE times - that's a hint. Make note of the hint.

No amount of reflectors (or any other passive defense) will protect your car from imbeciles, drunk drivers, miscreants, and ne'er-do-wells. You could have blinding LED's going off all around the car and drunks will still be magically attracted to it.

The answer is not passive on your part. The answer is to be pro-active and make a choice that, although mildy inconvenient, is much LESS inconvient than what your current choice has been.

Bottom line - there is nothing you can do to fix the people who are hitting your car. It is entirely up to you to make it much harder for them to hit it - by parking on a driveway made for that express purpose.

Research the psychological definition of "projection". Research the "Fallacy of Change". The answers to most of life's ongoing issues often reside entirely within ourselves.

Unfortunately for me, the driveway and/or garage are not a option for me. I'm forced to use the street so I'm I'm trying to make it work the best I can

My next suggestion, then, is [1] move elsewere and live somewhere you can protect what is for most folks their second-largest purchase or [2] park your Mustang elsewhere, even if it requires short stroll on your part.

Strictly my personal opinion - anywhere (and anyone) that can forbid you from parking in the driveway after your car has been hit FIVE times is not someone worth sharing living space with.

You deserve a situation both far more sensible and considerate.

Hello; My guess is his car is important to the OP but bottom of the list for the family. But yes the OP could move and have the issues of having your own place.

Two suggestions assuming you don't have a driveway

1) Do you have a neighbor with an empty spot in their driveway. I don't know how much your insurance deductible is but I bet it is more than paying a neighbor for a parking spot and way less trouble

2) rent a mini storage for your nice car and get a beater for the street.

Well your car is black which makes it hard to see at night. My advice, after reading that you can't do off street parking, is get a bright colored car cover with reflective strips. Or add the reflective strips to one that has none. It will keep the bird poo off the paint as well as making it more visible. It may reduce the odds greatly, but not entirely.

Threads like this make me question life, the education system and how we are a living in a live action reenactment of “Idiocracy”.

Bottom line is this, the only person who will care about this car the most is you, there is nothing you can do to protect it on the street.

The harsh reality is that instead getting yourself a nice car, you should have bought a beater until you moved out and got yourself your own place.

Maybe you can pay a neighbor to use their unused driveway? Where i live some of the old timers only have one car and sometimes they live in another state part of the year. You can make a deal.

Talk to your dad and see if he’ll agree to accept a weekly parking fee to allow you to park in the driveway. Tell him you’ll be the one responsible for shuffling cars around, so that it won’t inconvenience him or anyone else in the house.

Apparently it's Dad's house. Since he won't let the kid park in the driveway it seems unlikely he would agree to adding more pavement.
