You would have to ask someone who bought one. I think they are cool cars. But taking out the AC and radio are not going to make much of a difference on track, if any.
Based on you being a Regional Director for Shelby American have you actually had any seat time in a 2015-2018 Mustang Shelby GT350R Base Model in order to fully understand and appreciate the performance differences between an Electronics Package R model and a GT350R Base model based on the weight difference let alone the aural sound difference between the two models?

I hope that you realize that aside from deleting the AC and radio from a Base R model that there were 13 other delete items on a Base R model let alone the rarity of these 136 examples?

If you don't recognize that a 100-pound weight reduction which is in favor of the Base R model over the Electronic Package equipped GT350R model does not constitute a significant weight advantage/performance advantage in favor of the Base R model over many laps at various road courses that is somewhat surprising!

Was very fortunate to purchase 3 various model year Mustang Shelby GT350R Base models (all of which were Canadian Base R models) and after driving them back-to-back against an Electronics Pack GT350R model I could certainly feel and tell the difference from both an aural sound and a performance standpoint.

The collectability of a base R is great for those that want that. No issue’s there, but the useability of the car in hotter climates or even on a track it’s pretty disingenuous to set aside what the ac’s for. The Track Attack cars were run without ac at one point and then it was reinstalled due to soo many having issues. I was there for both, and the non ac’d cars the participants were dropping like flies, almost literally. Even with short 15-20 sessions many weren’t making it through them and were getting physically ill inside the cars and out. Many couldn’t handle the effects of just the cornering speeds let alone the added heat to that. I’m going to leave alone the hundred pound weight difference because two different drivers can almost make that difference up. To some the one of whatever means more the anything else, to others it doesn’t, nothing wrong with either. Regardless we’re not likely to see anything like a 350R come from any manufacturer ever again, sadly.

I hear you. I only drive my base R from November through April. But those are some great months on the street. The car is very, very different than a loaded GT350. I love it, just not in August.

No doubt if we’re talking loaded 350’s and R’s, and especially with a lighter R. The last car I ever had that came without ac was an 87Gt with manual windows and a manual. It was real common back then for the Ford dealers to order the LX’s and GT’s without ac. The no ac didn’t last long though, lol.

Wow! Details please.
I believe the gt350r will be the MKIV Supra of this modern era. This auction confirms that for me. No Camaro or Challenger will go for that kind of money imo…
Obviously the 2015 is the rarest, but my gt350r base is the next rarest. I’m excited to see how they appreciate.
I mean....if you want to be technical ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Your forgetting one piece, the driver. As one Ford engineer told me, one slightly missed turn that difference is gone.

The difference is about .4hp per lb. As one Ford Engineer told us, one slightly missed turn and that difference is whipped out and then some. I also run with a Base R. We are comparable drivers and we stay nose to tail all the time.

Don't misunderstand my post. The Base Rs are pretty cool cars and if I had the cash, I would have a street only GT350 and a Base R for track. Many of us have to stay with one car. The Base R is not the best street car which Im sure you would agree. The electronic package cars are the best choice for dual duty. Compromise. You have choices many of us dont have. And yea, I love your collection of base Rs

I was at the Indy Mecum 2024 show when that 2015 GT350R sold for 231K. It was my first time going to a Mecum show. I mainly went just to see the 15 R cross the block. Was awesome to see.

Was it confirmed that another one crossed at Mecum? Or was that just a rerun?
Im pretty sure its the same car. The broadcast was a bit confusing

Obviously I grew up in a different era than many of you when it comes to purchasing and driving HP automobiles and in particular Mustang.

Fully understand how most enthusiasts want to have AC in their HP Mustang in this era but when attending HPDE's in the 70's, 80's and 90's it was never a factor for myself and for most of my fellow car buddies.

Was fortunate to own 3 Base R models from new and drove all of those vehicles while residing in South Carolina, Arizona and California and yes some days it got hot but something that I have always lived with and was to be expected with vehicles like the Base R as well as the 1993 and 2000 Cobra R models.

Back in October 2015 myself and other Ford enthusiasts were invited to test drive some 2016 GT350/R pre-production units at the Sebring and during our day of driving Track Pack but mostly R models, not once did I encounter AC being used let alone any participants dropping out due to heat exhaustion.

With respect to the 1st year run of the 2015 Base R models which consisted of 6 regular production examples, I found it interesting that it was numerous Ford execs and Ford senior management who when checking off the boxes for their new 2015 GT350R, they chose to purchase a Base R model as their vehicle of choice which confirms just how much they think of the Base R model.

F0001 went to Bill Ford and F0004 went to the present CEO of Ford namely Jim Farley who is certainly a true automotive enthusiast.

After owning F0004 for quite some time I understand that a deal was made to sell F0004 to "Mr. Cobra" namely Lynn Park after which time Lynn and his two sons regularly track F0004 at Willow Springs and other track facilities all without AC.

Also recall another Ford exec only wanting to drive and track a Base R model and that was Jamal Hameedi who was the Global Chief Engineer for FP at the time.

Jamal ordered his 2017 GT350R Base model in late 2015 after which time "HR001" finally being built on March 8th, 2016.

Again Jamal could have ordered an Electronics Package R model but decided that a Base R model was the R model of choice for him therefore again confirms just how much appreciation he and other Ford execs have for the Base R model and all of its attributes.

Each to their own and certainly respect all those GT350R enthusiasts who just have to have AC in their vehicles while driving on or off the track but for those of us that don't need AC, radio, navigation, floor mats along with sound deadener and many other deleted features, it doesn't get any better than piloting a rare and exciting Base R model whether on or off the track!

It was at the Kissimmer auction which was a very unique event and very questionable on the prices achieved. Lots of speculation on what was going on.

They are cool cars and all but I can think of 20 cars off the top of my head that are way cheaper and way cooler and better on the track? Why the hell did that car sell for so much lol.. 🤦🏼‍♂️😆.

Which Kissimmee auction are you referring to and what made that auction event unique?

Any examples of questionable hammer pricing that you can share with us?
