lets not forget the ZR1 was modified that added a extra 100HP. It already had a lead in the HP department(Stock), but the added HP helped it more

The ZR1 was on a street alignment still and the GTD was on a track alignment.

I would honestly never expect the GTD to beat the zr1.
It looks so bloated sitting next to the zr1. If you added 300hp to that GTD then the race would probably be even or the GTD would win because it was handling better than cleets zr1. But at the same time all cleetus needs is better tires especially the front tires and the zr1 would be gone again. The GTD is too fat for a track car.
You won't get an argument for me. Weight, brick shape, and an underpowered drivetrain are reasons I suggested it was going to get its butt kicked. and that's what happened. Once the ZR1 was a rumor, I knew it was coming and the inherent mid engine traction, aero, and power were going to be way too much for the GTD.

Ford promised this otherworldly destroyer for lambo money. Instead we got a warmed over GT500 with 2015 Camaro Z28 suspension. Come on, dude.

Many of us were nonetheless ecstatic to see the Mustang elevated to such lofty heights. then reality hit.

That said, I have hopes for the GTD C. I am certain that not only have they added significant power, but saved weight as well. And then there are the suspension adjustments and aero refinements.

I have no doubt it will humble the ZR1 on most tracks. but I seriously doubt it will hang with it on the drag strip. And let's be honest, the GTD needs to excel at the strip. Especially when it costs twice the ZR1 money. I really hope I'm wrong about the drag strip performance though. Nobody is paying close to half a mil for a car that is only good at on a patch of road they'll never drive it on.

Of course. If they didn't handicap the ZR1, it would be BAD.

I think we know by now to cut our losses with the current GTD and look forward to the 2.0.

rough math equates to being about 55 feet behind.

Cleetus apparently can't drive (at least not the ZR1 on that track). Look how far off his lines are when he's behind the GTD.

ZR1 beats the GTD on every track test it's ever been in.

Guys, the GTD is ALL ENGINE and destroyed the time at The Ring withthe Comp model yet even the base GTD did amazing, the ZR1X has a cheat-code called electric engine (up front) and therefore in my opinion, the king of the hill is the GTD Comp. Its all engine, not electric, so comparing a hybrid to engine to Ford is not the same. Ford killed it with GTD and GTD-Comp. Now Porsche/Chevy will come after Ford but it has to be all engine for them to flex on Ford.

.02 cents

who needs the ZR1X? The ZR1 is faster than the GTD

ZR1X 6m 49.275s
ZR1 6m 50.763s
GTD 6m 52.072s (the one you can actually buy, not the Competition model that hasn't even been released or given details about...)

None. We'll wait for it to be tested by all the YouTubers and magazines when it comes out.

Maybe Zora will be out by then?

No offense to the YouTubers and car mags, but I’ll take the official lap time at the Ring with a real driver over those guys. I’m going to try to get up to Road America this summer, there’s a couple guys that run their GTD’s there, would like to see one flying around that track. A few guys here are local to RA too, would like to meet them as well if the timing works. My summer schedule sucks right now.

I’m curious what the new GS will do. Big fan of the C7 GS, it’s probably my favorite Vette. It’s stiff as a board but I like it, definitely not everyone’s cup of tea though. Will be interested to see if Ford did something similar with the C8 GS or if they softened it up a bit.

Im a fan of the competition between Ford and GM here, I just don’t know why so many people are trying to discredit the GTD. It’s heavy ass car that is underpowered relative to the ZR1 and kicked its ass with the Comp model. Your move, Corvette team…

Also, Randy Pobst is excluded from my real driver comment as he is, in fact, a real driver that now works for a car mag.

Perfect. GTD has a lot of work to do then, these are Randy's numbers.

3.8 seconds is a massive gap on a minute and a half lap.

And does the savagegeese test count? They used a pro racecar driver - https://www.brittcaseymotorsports.com/

GTD got smoked by 3 seconds on 1 minute 25 second lap.

Nobody's discrediting it. They're just going by the numbers. And one's a production car, one's literally hand built by a race shop. Run what ya brung.

Maybe when the Comp model is actually produced and sold other people can test it other than useless nurburgring times.
