Hi All
As the title says, will a 3 inch H pipe resonator delete make any difference sound wise than a 2.5 H pipe. Bearing in mind that the rest of the exhaust is also stock 2.5inch.
would the 3 inch have any advantages?.

thanks

So on my Bullitt, I originally removed the resonator and installed the FP X-Pipe. Everything else was stock (manifolds and mufflers). Personally I wasn’t a big fan of the X-Pipe. It surprisingly became quieter at idle, compared to when I had the stock resonator.

Removed it and added AWE’s 3” H-Pipe! Much better than the X-Pipe. The original stock sound came back, and much louder. Which is what I felt was missing with just the resonator. I am not sure if there would be a difference with a 2.5” pipe, but I can tell you it’s definitely much more deeper, while still keeping the tuned Bullitt sound.

Yeh

reason I asked is because I have an old mbrp h pipe from a catback I had installed and it’s 3inch and I also still have the steeda 2.5 inch h pipe as well.
just wondered which to install with the factory and exhaust mufflers.

If you already have the MBRP pipe, then I don’t see why not try it. Personally I noticed that there isn’t as much rasp as before. I know YouTube isn’t always the best example of judging an exhaust setup, but to me the 2.5” H-Pipe still restrains some of the 5.0’s rasp (not as bad as an X-Pipe) versus the 3” H pipe catbacks that have a deeper sound.

Check out this clip from AWE’s channel where they have a fully catback setup on a Bullitt. Full 3” H-Pipe catback:

The deeper tone of the AWE setup is more their mufflers than the 3” tubing of the H pipe. AWE does have a really good setup though, one of my favorites as far as sound goes.

Try to stay as close to the same pipe sizes so you dont get droning

Only thing that will change is tone/sound. 3" would be slightly deeper than a 2.5 (h-pipe to h-pipe comparison) since it has slightly more volume for the sound to expand.

Unless you are going 3" cat back, just stick to the 2.5".

Can't imagine it would make any difference at all going to 3" for 2 feet.

Mine had the MBRP 3" street catback with the H-pipe when I got it. Too loud for me (I know, I'm old) so I switched to a Ford Perf by Borla Touring 2.5" with X-pipe. Less drone below 2000 rpm and not as loud. Definitely more of a raspy sound, the H-pipe had more of a muscle car sound. Granted, a lot of that is the 3" vs 2.5". It actually has better drivability around town with the 2.5" with the X-pipe. Still sounds great running it thru the gears!
