They really shouldn't be as they are assigned in sequence number when the car is "ready" to be built, so roughly two weeks before the build is due to start. Of course there could be delays, but in general the cars coming off the line (whether LHD, RHD, US, Export) should be in rough VIN sequence number (last 6 digits)VIN's seem to be all over the place.
Once off the line is when the fun and games start - there seem to have been extra QA checks on all export models, followed by a trip to the "outfitters", then they get parked, then loaded on a rail car to the docks, then parked, then put on a ship to Zeebrugge, then parked, then customs checked, then parked, then undercoated, then parked, then loaded on a ship to Southampton, then parked, then loaded on a transporter and delivered to the dealer, who is then surprised it has turned up, then parked, then PDI'd, and only then can you collect it.
Simple logistics really. :headbonk:
