Doubtful. The straight is probably more durable for high abuse. At least that makes the most sense to me.
You would shell the bearings out of the unit LONG before you would ever reach the limits of the gear sets. (either of them) And frankly unless your over-spinning the unit past its rated RPM max, those bearings live LONG and I mean LONG happy lives. We have lots of customers with over 100,200 and even 250k miles on their units. (not to mention industrial usage with continued use 24-7)

We make TWO units.

Helical cut gears (the serial numbers end in an "H")
Strait cut gears (normal 5 digit serial number)

The customer can tell us which gears he wants.
And also with the strait gears we can make them louder if a customer wants.

The car I drive is so quite you can't hear the blower.
Can't even hear the bypass valve since the filter is still on the end of it.
Take the filter off the bypass valve, and they make a good "Whoooooosh" noise.
Yeah I was referring to the straight cut gear model

I'll make two observations from this thread. Beef always chimes in with insightful input even answers questions on Christmas, and Procharger Rep always seems to be around to help with questions. That kind of stuff goes a long ways when modding. I also know the Hypermotive guys answer very quick too. I was really thinking Paxton or Vortech, but Procharger always around answering questions and offering help is a pretty big deal IMO. I would have no issue ordering from any of them and Have 2/3 so far.

beefcake OK so I want a really honest answer here. I just read 76 pages worth of issues on the procharger. It was a mix of issues tuning with the IMRC, and parts not fitting correctly supplied by PC and wrong belt sizes also from them. I bumped an old thread on Paxton sc, seems the long start IS still an issue. Are the issue with the tuning and parts squared away yet? Last post was there are still plenty of issues with surging, bucking and so forth.

i don't think with our lund tunes

on the procharger side, that their are much issues bucking / surging,

kits seem to be going out complete

on the paxton / vortech side, i cannot speak to any "long start" issue, as my car doesn't experience, nor any car we have done the install on ourselves

our car fires up every time

Ugh this is killing me, both threads on here have Lund tunes all over the place. I mean if there is still some hiccups OK, but I would want to know.

I'll chime in here. I have the Paxton kit from Beefcake and have been really pleased with the customer service as well as the power from the S/C. I DO have random long/sluggish starts with mine from time to time. When it does it, the RPMs stay around 400-500 but if I tap the throttle slightly, it will jump up and idle fine. There is no set circumstance that causes this so it is hard to replicate. I have learned to just tap the throttle and go on about my business.

I am patiently waiting for Beefcake to come out with a torque booster kit for the 2015's. Hint Hint :)

part of the trick on these cars, is the dbw, trying to get it perfect with everyones driving habits can be tricky,

if you leave the throttle really lazy like stock, you never run into those issues.

with the increase in throttle response, you hit a certain point and it's "on", and thats where most of that comes in.

just takes a little fine tuning,

I like the procharger kit much better than the Paxton kit .. Procharger kit is easy as pie to install , no cutting , just bolt on and go .. Mine has seen a bunch of dd driving and a lots of trip down the 1/4 mile , zero problems ... It has a very nice sound at idle .You can hear the blow off valve if you have the window down but with it up you will not hear it .. Zero belt slip ... Prochargers latest canned tune had zero surge.. Mine for some reason had the Cams parked at zero ..We found it on the dyno and was an easy fix .. I have one of the latest kits and everything fix like a glove .. My goal was to run 10.90s driving it to the track and back home ... Well it meet my goal with a 10.80s and drives like stock on the street.. That was with 100% stock exhaust and Cats , no aftermarket axles , no aftermarket drive shaft.. Only mod I had was the blower and drag radials ..

MPG in town avg is 19 MPG , hwy is 26 MPG .. Great numbers for low boost (8 PSI) on my HO kit .. Air intake temps no matter how hot it is outside are never over 3 degrees of the out side temps ..The intercooler does a really good job of keeping the intake charge cool .. For 49 extra bucks I got the extra 2 year warrantee , that gives me a full 3 years of coverage .. As far as price I shopped around and got it for less than some of the other kits that are being offered here ..

Could be wrong here but only going off your avatar, but didn't you start off with surging issues?

Mine never surged ..But the first tune from Procharger did for some reason had the cams locked at zero .. But it never surged ..Never had a hard start problem either .. The car ran great but was down on power because the cams were locked ..

Ah yes I know which one was yours. I have to ask why you give it such high praise? I mean you had to grind the head unit because the belt was constantly rubbing, then you went a month with locked cams making everything slow as crap. Though I understand it was Pc tune but stiil. It's funny every Pc thread I read the pc tech guy denies all and everyone gets angry lmao. Sorry but he does change stories a lot.
