My soloperformance mach XV has a bit of a grumble and popping when decelerating. It's sweet.

My Gibson cracks a bit now on decel, was a bit more when I had stock headers, not so much now as before.

That's more likely to do with the engine side of things e.g. cams/tune/fuelling etc than it is the exhaust.

Those crackles, bangs and pops are unburnt fuel getting into the exhaust due to one of those other things I mentioned.

Deleting your cats and getting a nice tune will guaranteed give you the crackling exhaust.

Has nothing to do with the exhaust except that it is louder and amplifies what the stock system muffles....with the mufflers.

popping in the exhaust is not a backfire. A backfire is when the fire goes back (into the intake manifold), going out the exhaust is the normal route.

popping occurs during deceleration due to residual fuel igniting in the combustion process but with very low spark advance, like 5, 0, or negative degrees and the sound of combustion occurring (finishing) with an open exhaust valve or during the exhaust stroke. in most cases it is not fuel igniting in the exhaust.

This. What kind of tune you are running can make a huge difference with crackling/popping over stock. My Corsa Extremes crackle a little bit, but I'm expecting it to do it more with the Lund tune.

Correct, you could let your tuner know some of these minor things you'd want. Up to them whether they want to do this as it is unburnt fuel which, can clog your cats.

I get the occasional "POP" while upshifting. Gurgles and pops on deceleration too. Ford Racing By Borla Sport.
