any concerns that heavy items stored in the trunk can become flying objects in an accident? Rear seats fold nearly flat.
Nah its in one of those fold away nylon tri-compartment holders that velcros (tightly) to the trunk carpet. It's not going anywhere.

Yeah tire shops seem to still think 100ft lbs, but 2015-16 went to 150 ft lbs. I make the. Repeat the torque spec before and after the work.

So I ordered the BFG COMP 2 A/S, I only got to drive with them on back to the house, and they seem pretty responsive but can be softer. But heres the crazy part. The tire shop didn't tigthen all my lugnuts good enough. So I left the shop and heard some galloping, and I figured maybe these tires suck. Then I entered the free way and it started wobbling, and though okay maybe they f'ed my alignment. Then within 5 seconds BAAAAAP, my wheel comes off, my lugnuts shoot into the freeway and its rotor grinding rim. At the end of it all, no damage to car or rotar. Only a f'ed up rim, they ordered me a new rim, gave me $$$ to compensate and most importantly no injuries. All happened today.
I actually keep a 150lb torque wrench in my trunk just for this very reason. Shops always give me a funny look when I start torquing all my nuts to spec after they put my wheels back on.

I about s*** my pants just reading that!

One thing I've learned, I'm usually pretty dialed into my car, and if something feels off, it probably is - pull over quickly, do a quick once over on the car, and obviously if you've had some kind of work done, cross check those components.

Anyway, glad you (and your ride) are OK.

Wheel falling off from loose lug nuts:
Yeah, very similar situation to a service tech forgetting to put the new oil back into the engine.

I've experienced both.
And you can't pull over fast enough for either, once you become aware of it.

My "Local" Ford Dealer's mechanic didn't even know the wheels/lug nuts were to be torqued to 150 ft/lbs until I asked him what he tightened them to (he gave me the wrong answer).. Beware..

They weren't even torqued to 100 ft-lbs ... probably finger tight if they came off that fast.

on my old car, I took the car to one of those quick lube joints, and they overfilled the oil. It's hard to imagine they can do that, as they have a machine. Just look up car in the computer, dial in X quarts on the nozzle, and the machine does all the work. A reasonably smart 4th grader could do that.

But overfill they did. So I asked the tech to drain off some of the oil, and he got very annoyed and argumentative, but finally did comply.

Six months later, I had the car at a regular mechanic, where I was informed that the oil drain plug was previously stripped. Luckily the mechanic was able to use a special plug that sort of makes a new thread. But he said if that didn't work, or didn't work over the long term, it would need a new oil pan, which involved lifting the engine. Something like an $800 repair. For what was idiocy at the quick lube joint.

Idiocy is abundant
Attention to detail, not so abundant

Too tight..

"Varekai": a tire shop did the same thing to my 2010 GT...so over-tightened, it took a 6 ft extender bar to break the lugs loose. I checked to see if any of the lugs were cracked.

Glad you and the car are ok. And for what it's worth, I have those tires and they ride really nice when their actually on the car and not going past you on their own on the highway. :headbonk:

I was on 280, and honestly I have no clue. I was so sure my ride was going to be just destroyed back there. But luckily there was no damage that affects the performance of the car. Only cosmetics. Just lucked out I guess. Let me rephrase what happened. 2 lugs shot off, the wheel came off, but luckily was still riding on the body. The rotor was running on my inner rim. Rotor is fine though luckily. But my wheel looked like one of those insane cambered out cars lol.
