I had the clutch on my last car be fine all way up to 91,000+ miles (10 years) before I got another one and that was stop and go driving mostly.

Something is wrong if it went out in 7k.

I got talked into the Ford ESP (extended service plan) warranty when i got it (still on the fence about whether to keep it or not) and interestingly, they warranty the clutch! Go figure.

I would get Ford Corporate involved. Ask them(nicely) to send a field rep. to inspect the car. If they find abuse(clutch disc worn down to rivets and hot spots on the flywheel)-you are out of luck.

The new clutch will have to come out of your pocket unless they can find some defect caused by manufacturing/assembly.

The stock clutch on my Ranger lasted 16 years, 139,000 miles. 7000 miles sounds a little premature for the clutch to go out.

I had 85000 miles on my F150 with manual transmission, and that was with plenty of stop and go traffic / rush hour traffic. Clutch was probably good for many more miles, but the motor blew and I traded the vehicle.

Yup here too. It lasted from the day I bought it new in 1998 till I traded it in on my 2014 Mustang. That Ranger was amazing, and the engine / drive train was still going strong when I got rid of it. Not sure why Ford stopped making the Ranger.

I have driven stick shifts for more than 30yrs, I never ride the clutch.
OP probably has more time with a manual transmission than most of us.

I suspect MT82 failure

and dealer knee-jerk reaction is to say "clutch"

And here I was thinking about custom engine tunes and superchargers vs warranties and the odds of needing drive train repairs.

Be interesting to see what the official diagnosis is, once they do a tear-down.

I'm with others that have said hydraulic failure. It is a wear item, but if it wore out for reasons outside your control, you should have it covered under warranty.

Get in and pump it 100+ times and see if the pressure comes back. If it does it is not the clutch. If you haven't been hammering on it the clutch should be fine. All this said take it to a performance shop and get a good clutch before putting a stock one back in.

There have been a few of us that had the stock clutch fail real early. Mine came apart with just 286 miles. Mine was not driver error. Atleast not from me anyway. Who knows what was done on a test drive.
Mine also went limp, had no gears, and pedal to the floor. It went out on the highway going into 5th. I thought it was odd that morning leaving the house when the clutch chattered. Wife wondered what the heck that was......10 min later, done.
My clutch disc completely came apart. Looked just like the photos posted here where others have had a similiar issue.
Mine was covered under warranty with no questions asked. The new clutch has about 400 miles on it and still chatters. Ive also been driving a stick for 20+ years

The extended warranty covers the clutch. Is it possible to add it now? Ask the dealer. I have the extended mechanical warranty and it even includes clutch and all other things. Your bumper to bumper also goes up to 60000 miles. Ford had a deal back in late 2014.

Definitely sounds like the clutch. When they go out in these cars the pedal goes to the floor and stays there. Mine did it going from 5th to 6th on the interstate under normal acceleration. Got it to the side of the road, turned car off and got it to go into 2nd. Then I putt-putted home. I had 800 miles on the car, just had completed my LT header install. Took it to dealer and the clutch came out in pieces. Told me not going to warranty it because of headers. They were saying it was a power adder that caused a premature failure do to the extra horsepower. I did not take that well and i am also one that doesn't take "NO" very well. I laughed at them because we all know that LT's maybe gained me 20hp - on a good day. This dealer was also a Roush dealer, and me being new to the Mustang owner world, I figured it would be a good time to upgrade to a stronger clutch. Figured that since the dealer had it torn down, knowing I was going to mod it more, and they were a Roush dealer, I would just have them upgrade it to what Roush puts in their Stage 3 supercharged cars. So I called Roush. The Roush rep informed me there was no upgrade. Their Stage 3 cars come with the same clutch that's in my 2015 GT. So armed with that info, I went back and called BS to the more power excuse they were trying to allude to. I got the dealership GM involved and got the area Ford Service Rep involved. They replaced everything 100% under warranty. 5000 miles and many mods later (including DR's, suspension upgrades promoting hard launches) the replacement clutch is still in tact. I have a RXT sitting in the garage because I will be going FI soon.
Side note to this - while my car was down for weeks waiting on a new clutch I found that Ford had some issues. There were many cars around the country that were down for the same problem I had. I heard through a dealership that there were some clutch material bonding issues, however there was never a formal service recall or letter put out. I have driven and race stick cars for the past 35 years so it was not a driver mod issue...its the % game if you got a good one or not. Regardless in your situation I would push back hard 7000 miles is not the life expectancy of a clutch.

I agree 100% with what is said above. There def seems to be some issues with these cars clutches. There are way way to many people having clutch issues (chatter and friction disc coming apart) for these to be user related issues. My car was brand new and the clutch chattered. I was told it was normal and that it would go away as it broke it. I took it back to the dealership, the felt it and first denied it due to user wear and tear item at under 1200miles and than said because of my cat back exhaust. Needless to say after countless dealings with the worthless people at the dealership and the worthless regional manager I said forget it and put an RXT in my car. After taking it apart there is def some kind of issue with marks that look extremely odd like chatter but extremely random on the pressure plate. I would advise to try and push the issue hopefully you can get a different response after this cars issue I can say this is my first and last ford EVER. This forum is littered with lack of service issues.

I agree with this 100% I am pretty unimpressed with this car so far. My clutch went bad, breaks squeal, thin chipping paint, interior rattles and creeks, leather looks worn like I'm either 500 lbs or I just get in and out of it 300 times a day.

Dealership gave me no issues on the clutch, but hee-hawed around with the brakes and claimed they couldnt hear the dash rattles. I wish I woud have refused the car when the dickbags screwed the front plate through the bumper! TWICE !! Once with the holder and once again with some 3" screws to hold the plate to the holder.
