Hi All,

I have a 2015 GT with less that 7000miles on it. It is the 6sp manual. I took off in first gear, changed to 2 and the vehicle went limp. I eventually realised that the clutch pedal was stuck, I pulled that up and the vehicle still woundn't move. I switched off the engine and the car would not restart. Got it towed to Ford, they tell me the clutch is burnt but the clutch is a wear and tear item and not covered under warranty.

Is this true? Surely a clutch burning out with less than 7000 miles should be covered under warranty.

Can anyone with more knowledge on the warranty advise me on what I can do?

Thanks

Is this your first stick shift car? And do you ride the clutch for long periods?

No warranty on clutches.. like they told you, it's a wear and tear item. It will last as long as the driver allows it to.. heh.

I doubt that it will be covered. I would use this as an opportunity to switch to an aftermarket clutch. Keep practicing with a manual. The stock clutch is pretty good, I'm still on a stock clutch with Whipple SC.

I doubt Ford will cover that, but you can try, in as friendly and polite manner as possible.

otherwise I would shop for clutch upgrade / racing clutch. Assuming that doesn't result in a significantly heavier clutch peddle. And assuming you can wait for shipping. Something like a Mcleod might be cool.

as for your current clutch, could be factory defect, your driving style, or someone that had your keys that wasn't you. Hard to say, and difficult to prove anything.

I wish my clutch would go!! I've done multiple track days and run the car about as hard as I can " legally " on the street! All mods included I'm sitting on about 700 horse.

Lmao, I thought that mine would have gone a lot time ago. I'm actually changing it next week while I am having 3.31 gears installed.

I have seen these new GTs tear the fly wheel up with very few miles due to the engagement being wrong. I would let them know that 7k is unacceptable. Even if you ride a clutch all the time it will last longer than 7k.

If it's not coming up, its more hydraulic issue rather than the clutch itself.
Stuck valves or plunger. Air in the line or loss of fluids.
7000 miles is clearly not normal for a clutch to wear out if its assembled properly.

actually it does sound like something other than clutch. I haven't had a clutch fail on me before but I think they just start to slip rather than a sudden transmission failure. If this is the case, that's good news for you, as it will be a warranty repair. If they do insist its the clutch, and decline a warranty repair, you might consider getting the car towed to another dealer (or independent mechanic) for a second opinion. At the very minimum get the old part back.
